A Day of Contradictions

It was the coldest day of the year
But the sun shone brighter than it had in weeks
As we said goodbye to Officer Hank Nava

A celebration of life
A mourning of death

There was a great display of pageantry and order
But grief and tears were visible in all

Officers, friends, and family gathered from across the nation
And the folks of Fort Worth made a strong presence

I felt pride as I looked upon the sea of officers
Men and women who put their lives on the line for the citizens of our city
I felt humility as our mayor poured out his heart and emotions
To honor Hank and his family

The strongest of our leaders were exposed at their weakest
When sentiments and feelings they shared overwhelmed them

The anecdotes and pictures made me laugh
The music and stories moved me to weep

The cadence of the honor guard could be heard and seen
As they carried the casket from the church
But only us fortunate few witnessed

I am so sorry for the loss of officer Nava. December 1st 1999, my husband, John Robinson of Memphis also was killed in the line of duty. I can understand what his wife and children are going through, during this time when everyone else is celebrating Christmas, you look at strangers and wonder how they can be smiling and having fun when your world is torn apart. I will say a prayer for you and your family. Please rely on Jesus Christ to get you thru this. He will help you when you think you cant go on, because there may be times in the future when you feel so low. But just remember that Officer Nava was a brave man and that Jesus was holding his hand as he entered into Heaven. God bless you and your family Mrs Nava.

As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Oh, how I wish someone could invent something that would repel all/any bullets from hurting our brave officers who take this risk so that we can feel safe. I am deeply saddened by this tragedy. My prayers are extended to yet another family of our fallen loved ones.

Reality

Imagine how our world would be
If every police officer quit
Turned in their gun, turned in their badge,
Just finally had enough of it.

No respect, no loyalty,
No appreciation of all they do,
They’d give their lives for all of us,
These wonderful officers of “Blue”.

Kicked at, spit on,
Punched, stabbed and shot,
Everyday assaults on officers,
Done…without thinking a second thought!

Our laws are in favor of criminals,
There’s always some loophole in their case,
Out again to commit more crimes and murders
…creates pain, that we, the family and friends
…in time will never erase.

Why should they do it?
Why take the risk?
Why put their life on the line?
Subject their loved ones to endless suffering,
When their precious life is lost while fighting crime.

More murders, more kidnappings, more robberies and rapes,
Just to mention a few,
Please ask yourself how life would be,
If there were NO officers in Blue!

Would you do it? Could you do it?
And for how many…would YOU give it all?
Rewards are a 21 gun salute, a Medal of Honor,
And your name gets added to the Wall.

Think about it. Why are they here?
And why do some hate them so?
Because they enforce the laws that put convicts and murderers
In jail serving time, or on “Death Row”.

All give some and some give all,
It’s a risk they chose to take:
To put their heart and soul in it,
To put their lives at stake.

So, please take a moment,
Please give it deep thought,
Think of what “you can do”…

To help show respect,
To help follow the laws,
So we’d quit losing our Heroes in Blue!

I want to extend my condolences to the family and the Fortworth, TX police department on the passing of Officer Henry (Hank) Nava Jr. It's sad when we have people in our community such as the female that facilitated in this officer being shot when he entered the house. Ever since my dad passed in the line of duty and my husband has entered into to life of law enforcement, I have felt a deep sympathy for the family and friends of all fallen officers. It turned my world upside down again when I realized this time that I new this officer and his family. My heart goes out to you Theresa, Justin, and Kayleigh. As a resident of Fort Worth I am in debt to Officer Nava and the FWPD. On every shift, each of you squarely faces the risks of the job and yet you still toe the line. To serve and protect people you do not know. Too often unappreciated. The memorial service was a testament that Officer Nava and those who serve as he did are not forgotten. As Clint said, "Thank you for sharing". To the Nava family, Hank's friends and fellow officers, know that there are countless folks who think of and pray for you daily and stand behind you. On behalf of my family and department, I bid you each peace, Godspeed and may God bless you all.
