Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer Henry "Hank" Nava, Jr.

Hank-

I was just thinking about you tonight bro, and I wanted to leave you something. It's been nearly three months since you left us, and we all miss you dearly. I found this "poem," and it reminds me of how brave and honorable you were. Watch over us Hank...

“This is my badge.
I bear it before me into battle,
but it is not mine alone.
It protects my brother on my left.
It protects my city.
I will never let my brother
out of its shadow
nor my city out of its shelter.
I will die with my
badge before me
facing the enemy.”

My son was watching tv over the weekend and his favorite all time show is cops! This episode he was watching hit home when he hollared at me to come look at the tv. When I got in there he asked me "momma isn't that the officer that was shot by that bad guy"? It sure enough was! There on the tv it said the name of the officer - Officer Hank Nava. This was an episode from years ago. Officer Nava did have a great dedicaiton and appreciation to his job of protecting the citizens of Ft. Worth. I am glad he did.

There are no words to convey the anguish and heartfelt sorrow I feel for Officer Nava's family. Officer Nava has crossed over now and is no longer in pain. My father was in police work all his life and his last job was as a Potter County Deputy.

I don't know what it feels like to lose a husband like that but I do know the terror of turning on the TV and seeing on national news my father being held hostage in an attempted jail break.

May Almighty God Bless You and Hold You and Your Children in the Palm of His hands now and forevermore.

Merry Christmas From Heaven

I still hear the songs
I still see the lights
I still feel your love
on cold wintery nights

I still share your hopes
and all of your cares
I'll even remind you
to please say your prayers

I just want to tell you
you still make me proud
You stand head and shoulders
above the crowd

Keep trying each moment
to stay in His grace
I came here before you
to help set your place

You don't have to be
perfect all of the time
He forgives you the slip
If you continue to climb

To my family and friends
please be thankful today
I'm still close beside you
In a new special way

I love you all dearly
now don't shed a tear
Cause I'm spending my
Christmas with Jesus this year

I just wanted to say how sorry I am that Officer Nava's family has joined the many families that have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
I am one of the few people who can actually say that I know exactly how it feels. I lost my husband on April 24, 2002 and my daughters were just 10 and 6. I know the pain that you are suffering and what lies ahead for you. My daughters also know how your children must feel.

I want you to know that you will learn to survive. I feel that it takes a special type of woman to marry a police officer. I think God knew what he was doing when he joined us with our husbands. He knows that we are strong, and that we can survive what is ahead for us! Take it a breath at a time, and then a step at a time, and then minutes at a time. You will gradually work up to days, months, and yes-even years.

I think about you often and want to help in any way that I can. He will never be forgotten.

God bless you and your children,
Vicki Monier-Widow of Capt. Scott Monier

My deepest sarrow goes out to the friends and family of Officer Nava. I am a new Officer (1 1/2 yrs/25 years old) and this shows me that no matter how long your on the force, to always pay attention. Anything could happen. I already find myself complaisent and relaxed on some things I shouldn't be (traffic stops, 911 hang ups). Though I never met Officer Nava know that his death has tought me and others like me many things. Prayers and thoughts are with all friends and family.

What Hank meant to me!

Hank has been a close friend for over 23 years. We were best friends before Law Enforcement and after I started in the Law Enforcement field, it inspired Hank to become apart of that family. He meant to world to me and my family, Mom even accepted Hank as one of hers and Hank was proud to know this, as he called her Momma Preusse.
Hank, you will be dearly missed, my little brother, my very best friend, my brother in Law Enforcement, and my Hero, you were truly an inspiration in my heart, which I was proud to be apart. Your smiles, positive attitude, your outlook upon life, will remain as a reminder to me as hope for the future, as hope for transition, as a remembrance of the passion of your spirit, and of hope for me to keep making a difference in my Professionalism, through my goals, through Law Enforcement, and through newly gained friends, that I will keep telling of my experiences with Hank. Hank, I looked up to you, as a mentor, as one of the best of the best friends that everyone will envy, and this makes me proud to stand as your big brother, and I loved being apart of your life, because you believed in me and I in you, you were a true, "Hero in My Eyes."
The spirit you displayed to Teresa, your family, close friends was truly Christ like and Christ would be proud to call you one of his own, as you truly displayed love and true friendship. Christ said come to me, with a child like heart and you will be accepted in my Kingdom. I love you buddy with all my heart!

Sincerely from your best Friend,
Keith Preusse

I only knew you two days before your last tour of duty. Both of these days you were in my office, just as I had always heard, the smile of a brother, the currage of a leader, a strong firm hand shake and most of all, a God Fearing man.

I was proud to see you assisting my officers in what seemed to be "just a everyday" offense, but you were here both days, smiling, joking and willing to help.

This was hard to hear your last call, but I'm proud to know you are on watch in your heavenly station. Thanks for being a brother of the badge, but most of all thanks for being my "Father's Son".

To Mrs Nava and family, I send you my deepest sympathies on the lose of your wonderful husband and father of your children. After reading the story all I can say is I hope they charged the girlfriend for murder as well, she had the power to keep these officers safe. He is your angel in heaven now, a love that will be forever. Rest in splendid peace
