Reflections for Detective Dillon H. Stewart
PO Stewart was truly the finest of the Finest. As a department, as a city, and as a society we are much poorer for his loss.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Stewart family during this terrible time.

"A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today, and a part of America died. A piece of our country he swore to protect, will be buried with him at his side. The suspect that shot him will stand up in court, with counsel demanding his rights. While a young widowed mother must work for her kids, and spend many long, lonely nights. The beat that he walked was a battle field too, just as if he'd gone off to war. Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast, to his name they will add a gold star. Yes, somebody killed a policeman today, in your town or mine. While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors, a cop put his life on the line. Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street, and he stands at each new rookie's side. He answered the call, of himself gave his all, and a part of America died.

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

I am Truly sorry that this brave sole is not able to see his wife and kids anymore. then I think he can see his wife and kids because he will always be watching over them. They may not see but he is there. I wish I could have been there to have changed the outcome. To the kids and wife your daddy was a Brave Warrior that did a job that most fear and the rest would never even take. You will see your daddy again but until you do remember all of the times you shared together because noone can ever take the memories away from you. My prayers with you always. Respectfully yours.

For all the hard work you have done while the community was fast asleep. You took the criminals off the streets and protected us with your life. You were a shining example of how one should treat their fellow human being. May the light of Heaven watch over you. You will be remembered in our hearts forever. We love you and miss you.

"There is one thing I know: the only ones among you who will ever be truly happy are those who have sought and found a way to serve." Albert Schweitzer. Dr. Schweitzer was not a police officer, but he clearly understood the meaning of service. So did Officer Stewart. He did not allow being wounded to stop him from pursuing a dangerous felon. Clearly, he had found his way to serve.
Nothing can replace this officer, but I pray that the memories he leaves behind of happy times with family and friends will help to ease the pain they're feeling now.
Rest easy, my brother; you will never be forgotten.
