Reflections for Detective Dillon H. Stewart

This is tragic. It happened the day that my son was born, which is how I happened upon this story. I am so sorry to hear about this great man's death.

Dear Officer Dillon Stewart,
I am crying over your death and I never even knew you. You are clearly loved by so many. Reading your story made my heart ache. I admire you and others of your profession- it takes a lot of guts and courage to risk your life every day for the safety of others. My 28 year old sister died in 2005 and it doesn't seem to be easier after 8 years. Nothing can replace a persons life- nothing satisfies. All I can do is honor her. My heart goes out to your family and all who cared for you. I don't doubt they strive to honor you. I pray for all kinds of things every day but I never thought to pray for the police department- I am now. people I have never met but feel love for.

Dillon, it has been seven years and you are always in our memories along with Leslyn and your 2 daughters. Your picture is hanging above my desk to always remind me of the sacrafice you made for doing God's work and how dangerous this job could be. I always remeber the conversations we had on midnights. Detective Stewart,

I had the honor of spending the last week with your family, at COPS Kids Camp. You would be so proud of your beautiful girls. Your older daughter watches over her little sister with great love. They are both filled with kindness and compassion, and a great sense of humor. They honor your memory and sacrifice.

May God Bless you and keep you close while you watch over those who love and miss you. Rest in Peace.

Dillon, I am sure as you look down on us from Heaven, you are proud of what Leslyn is doing. She and I are becoming good friends as she works on getting a C.O.P.S. Chapter started down in NY City area. Because of the losses that have occurred downstate this year it seems like we are on the phone more and more frequent. Her desire to get a Chapter going impresses me and I know she will give great support to the Survivors in the area. While it is through a terrible reason that we have become connected to each other, some positives are coming out as well. Keep watch over all the LEOs especially the downstate NY ones, it's been a bad year for them. You, your family, and your family in blue will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Maybe its because I'm originally from NYC or maybe its because my brother in law Jonathan Dragus EOW 10/20/05 passed just about a month earlier. But, I followed this case in the news. I hope the family of Officer Stewart knows that people that they don't even know were touched by this story and his bravery. God bless.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the fourth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you. Both the pain and pride are forever.

I was still in the academy when we learned of your passing, so I was not yet there to experience what the sorrow of losing a fellow officer from the same station house actually felt like. However, I did mourn for you.
The tragic events of that night was of course echoed throughout the academy, as well as the news. I followed the story closely, learning that the same POS responsible did shoot another officer the week before. This ingrained in my head quick that there are people who will try to kill us. All I can do is keep that in mind and better my tactics. When your wife thanked us at the NLEOM for being there in support, it did hit me. The loss of a fellow officer always leaves more than one victim. But she was gracious and we were thankful.

Like P.O. Frank Hennessy, I did not know you. You passed before I got to the 70, but you were my Brother in Blue and I am proud to have worn the same uniform.
