Reflections for Patrol Officer Edward Odell Fite

My thoughts are with your loved ones on this first anniversary of your end of watch. I know a day has not gone by during this past year that they have not thought of you or shed a silent tear in your memory. You are a true hero and heroes never die, your memory will never be forgotten. Keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol.

July 10th would have been your 49th birthday, Odell. This afternoon the thought passed through my mind that I have to call and wish you a Happy Birthday. However, I can never do that again. Neither will I ever again receive a call on the 15th from you wishing me a happy birthday. You are in my thoughts constantly and I miss you so much. Happy Birthday, Odell. I love you!

Odell, we leave May 12 to go to Washington, D.C. for the police officer's memorial ceremonies. Your name has been added to the wall and we will be there to honor you. How I wish we did not have to make this trip! Losing you has left such a void in our lives. We miss you so much!!

To the family and friends of Patrol Officer Odell Fite and his fellow officers at Wiggins Police Dept.:

I was so saddened to learn of the tragic incident that took the life of this dedicated veteran officer. I know that everyone involved is hurting and in anquish. I pray that justice is served for this brutal murder.

I also know that the impact of losing two officers in such a small department has to be monumental. People that are not connected with law enforcement cannot fully comprehend what a law enforcment family is...how tight a crew is...how much you rely on each other... and that when an officer down call is relayed, the responding officers are coming to the aid of someone they are close friends with, brothers and sisters of the heart, and sometimes of the blood. Those bullets that killed Odell and Brandon killed a part of everyone who loved them and seared their souls forever.

In reading the reflections about Odell, it is clear that he was loved and respected my many people whose lives he touched. That is a wonderful legacy to leave. He spent half his entire life in law enforcement protecting and safeguarding others.

May you all be comforted by your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. May God watch over and protect his loved ones. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Odell Fite gave to his community and the citizens of Mississippi, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 27, 2005.

Brave soldiers in the never ending war on criminals in our country have been killed by a cowardly enemy. May the ruthless criminal responsible for this murder be brought to justice and sentenced to the most severe penalty. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever. We are proud of you and thankful for all of your service. May God bless you and your family.

Though I didn't get to work with Odell for a long time, He was able to teach me so much in that short period of time. Odell had the ability to talk to criminals with the utmost respect and to convince even the most violent criminals to surrender peacefully. I know he'll be watching from above as we take his watch. Thanks Odell for a job well done! You will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace

Lord,
He was yours to give,
and yours to call home,
please stand by his brothers,
so they don't feel alone,
dry the tears of his family,
so they clearly see:
that he gave his all,
so all could have peace.
Blessed are they,
the children of God,
with heavy hearts,
and honor they trod,
to pay their respects,
to give their salute,
and to ask for your mercy,
on heroes in Blue.

Odell, rest easy brother, we have the watch.

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Odell did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Odell be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Fite's family, friends, and co-workers are going through in losing him. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of loss until they've walked in our shoes. Please know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (The Davis County Sheriff's Office will always know how to reach me or write jocelyne1974 at canada dot com)

As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Odell but, I am certain he was well respected and well loved. Odell will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were all blessed to have been able to know and love Odell, even for a short time. I pray that Odell, Dennis, and all the other fallen officers will continue to watch over us all as only they can.

Thank you Officer Fite for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you and all those who's lives you touched brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

My condolences and prayers go out to all the colleagues, family members, friends, and all who knew you. You will NOT be forgotten! Thank you for dedicating your heart and soul to your career to keep our community safe. As each day passes, may your family know what a “true hero” you are!

I work in Law Enforcement, as does my husband. He works 3rd shift patrol and is also a member of his agency’s SWAT team. Every single time he walks out the door, I kiss him goodbye, as I know it could be my last. We live in a city that has a high rate for drugs and gangs. We lost a female officer on 10/3/05 , named Robin Vogel, due to a drunk driver. I know there are no words that can ease the pain in your family’s situation right now, but know that there are other Law Enforcement Officer’s who think about you daily, even all the way from IL.

May God be with all of you and may justice be served on the man who took your life!

Rest in peace blue angel! J

At this time, I would like to show my gratitude for you dedicating your life for our community to be safe. This is something I found and put on Robin’s Memorial Page and I would love to share it with you!

Christmas In Heaven

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below, with tiny lights like heaven's stars reflecting on the snow.

The sight is so spectacular please wipe away that tear, for I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear, but the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you of the joy their voices bring, for it is beyond description to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart, for I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.

I can't tell you of the splendor or the peace here in this place, can you just imagine Christmas with our Savior face to face?

I'll ask him to lift your spirit as I tell him of your love, so then pray for one another as you lift your eyes above.

Please let your hearts be joyful and let your spirit sing, for I am spending Christmas in Heaven, and I’m walking with the King.
