Reflections for Sergeant Michael Scott Neal

Scotty, I really don't know what to say other than for the short amount of time I got to know you I truely enjoyed every minute. You were the first person to befriend me when I came to Mexia. You are a great man. I will never forget how lucky I was to have been a part of you and your family's life. You will always be in my prays. I will always be there for Cindy and Tracy. Much love my friend!

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Scott did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Scott be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Sergeant Neal's family, friends, and co-workers are going through in losing him. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of loss until they've walked in our shoes. Please know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (The Davis County Sheriff's Office will always know how to reach me or write jocelyne1974 at canada dot com)

As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Scott but, I am certain he was well respected and well loved. Scott will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were all blessed to have been able to know and love Scott, even for a short time. I pray that Scott, Dennis, and all the other fallen officers will continue to watch over us all as only they can.

Thank you Sergeant Neal for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you and all those who's lives you touched brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Scott,
I will remember the times that we all had together. I think of you often and laugh for all the funny things you said and did. I want to say thank you for the way that you touched my life, and left a lasting impression that only you could. I can never tell you how much you are missed. Lee and I will take care of Cindy and Tracy, and we will make sure that Tracy knows what a GREAT man, officer and dad you were. Kealen, Kennedy & Kuper talk about you and want you to know that they know that you are with God now, and that you are an angel that will watch over them in all they do.
I love you and miss you. Can't wait to see you again.

My thoughts are with you and Tracy. I will always remenber Scotty's upbeat personality and spirit. He would always come to my office and slap his hand down on the counter and scared the daylights out of me and got the biggest kick out of doing it! Scotty was a positive figure where ever he went. He touch the lives of everone that came across his path.

Dearest Cindy
Sorry to hear of your loss and just so you will know I have said prayers for you and Tracy everyday, and Will continue to do so. I only met him once and liked my hot sauce so I guess that was a good thing, And my daughter Ysenia, said "He was the guy who liked your hot sauce mom?" So he will be remembered as "the hot sauce guy".

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
