Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Alvin Marcellus Albrecht

Deputy Sheriff Albrecht,
On today, the 80th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army during World War I. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

He is my great uncle and I spent five years in Edinburg as a student at the then UTPA (class of 2000). I even worked at the county seat as a VA Work Study for the county Veterans Service Officer. Efforts to find and contact my relatives were fruitless. At that time there was nothing to recognize his service.

In 2014 you were finally recognized and honored at your old agency the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Albrecht is a distant relative of mine that I never met. His great nephew, Harold Baecker, became a Texas Highway Patrolman and retired in 1992. I entered Houston police Department in 1972 and retired from law enforcement in 2011. We honor his service and sacrifice.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 69th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Deputy Sheriff Albrecht,
On today, the 64th anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Hidalgo County. It took two more years, but the scumbag that murdered you got the justice that he deserved.
