Reflections for Lieutenant Robert Manuel Cabral
We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

God be with the family and police community. It is a hard thing to go through, we just lost one of our men in blue the beginning of Oct and it is something you never want to hear or think about. God be with his wife, children, mother father, siblings and all. Be with those dispatcher working that day and his co-workers. That is something I dont wish for anyone to have to go through.

I had the privilege of meeting Lt. Cabral in Nashville, Tennessee, at the National DARE Conference in July of 2004. We worked together on a community service project cleaning up a facility that helped underprivileged children. Lt. Cabral took on the task of cleaning up a carport area by himself and never complained about the heat or humidity while doing it. He was a man with a great sense of humor and took pride in the work he performed. I could tell that he was a fantastic DARE officer and I am sure that the students he taught were influenced by him in a positive way. It is a shame that something he taught students not to do took his life. He will be greatly missed, not only by those who worked with him, but also those, especially the young people, he came in contact with a DARE officer. My deepest sympathy to his wife, children, the Swansea Police Department, and the youth of the community of Swansea.

Bob was a personal friend for years. He was a wonderful man, and will be sadly missed by an entire community.
I had the pleasure of working with him as part of the committee, Swansea Friends of D.A.R.E. Bob taught the d.a.r.e. program to the junior high school kids long after the funding ran out, on his own time, and at no salary. Because he cared about the kids.
All the students loved Bob. One lesson they got from him was that Law Enforcement officers were your friend. They all knew they were loved. They respected him, and he respected them. They all knew he was there for them. They learned from him . They remembered what he taught him. And, if he was not teaching them about the dangers of substance abuse, he was sharing in their enjoyment of sports as a coach, referee, manager, or just watching their games.
Bob was a very effective Police Officer because he always respected people and he had their respect too. He was not ashamed to show he cared or to be compassionate. He had real passion for helping kids take the right path in their lives.
He was a dedicated dad to his boys, they were his world.
Nothing I could ever say would be enough.
You were a hero, Bob, and we will always miss you and hold you close in our hearts.
