Reflections for Lieutenant Robert Manuel Cabral

As a former police officer in Massachusetts it is always hard to hear of a fellow brother passing. Rest in peace Lt.

For those of us in Swansea where "Officer Bob", as he was known to all of us, there are no words to express the grief and shock. This small close knit community was devastated by the loss of this great man. He was a father, brother, son and friend to every man , woman and child in this town. He gave selflessly for 26 years as an officer. He made us feel safe and protected. He was a coach and DARE officer in the schools. Every child knew him, and he knew them all by name. He made them feel special. He was a true hero, in every sense of the word. He will NEVER be forgotten here, he has touched so many lives. All I could think of since Saturday, when he was killed by a drunk driver, are the words from an Elton John song..."his candle burned out long before his legend ever did"...this is true of Bob. Lt. Robert Cabral will live on in this town forever. His legacy will last. I pray now that his passing will inspire the people of this state to change the drunk driving laws so this can never happen again. We owe Lt. Cabral that...and so much more. God bless him and all his fellow officers. Heartfelt sympathy to his immediate family. Strength and courage to our town, may we honor him by living as he did, with humor and a love of life.

Bob,

You will be missed, and remembered. Thank you for keeping watch over our kids while you were here, and for eternity. You, Mitch and Alec are in our prayers.
I hope your soul smiles as you see how many lives you touched, and how lost we feel without you.

To the family of LT.Robert Cabral my prayers are with you.

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME
MY NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY
RECORDED HERE AT THIS HALLOWED PLACE
ALAS, MY NAME, NO MORE MY FACE

" IN THE LINE OF DUTY" I HEAR THEM SAY
MY FAMILY NOW THE PRICE WILL PAY
MY FOLDED FLAG STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS
WE ONLY HAD THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS

THE BADGE NO LONGER ON MY CHEST
I SLEEP NOW IN ETERNAL REST
MY SWORD I PASS TO THOSE BEHIND
AND PRAY THEY KEEP THIS THOUGHT IN MIND

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME
AND WITH HEAVY HEART AND BENDED KNEE
I ASK FOR ALL HERE FROM THE PAST
DEAR GOD, LET MY NAME BE THE LAST

Please say a prayer for all of our law enforcement officers across the nation.

Officer Bob,

The town of Swansea owes you for all of your hard work and dedication. I think every child, ages 11-25, owes you a "Thank you" for your DARE program. Every student that went to the JR High has gone through your DARE program and has come out better because of it. You have no idea how many people you have influenced along the way.

You will me missed.

...and again - Thank You

Officer Bob was one of a kind. He coached one son in basketball, winning the championship over a much favored team.. He had a positive attitude that spread to all around. Our small community, State and country lost a pillar od society..
Officer Bob you will be missed greatly.God bless you, your family and all law enforcement officers.
