Reflections for Police Officer Stanley Cornell Reaves

There once was a man who walked the streets, walked the streets in hopes that he could keep all around him safe. On Friday October 8,2005 Officer Reaves was doing just that. He was tending to the needs of others. Where a man, a man that must have been the devil in disguise. Pulled a weapon on a man of honor. A man who was doing his faithful job. A job I'm sure he loved. One he put his heart and soul into in order to the job as well as he did. Although most of us have never had the pleasure of meeting you, I think we all feel closer to you. Your family is going to be taken care of, please have no worries of that. Rest easy. Remember your children now have thousands of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and father like figures to help them when most needed. Whether for a question or help with homework. To all of those in Norfolk I extend my prayers and my heart to help with your grief. I just wish this didn't happen again. I'm sure you are serving in heaven with Mike Saffran CKPD, Rod Poccheski VBPD, Sheila Herring-Patrick NPD, and all the others that are apart of the greatest Department there is. The Officers of God. You will be missed and never forgotten.

To the family and friends of Officer Stanley Cornell Reaves, and his fellow officers with the Norfolk Police Dept:

On behalf of our entire family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Reaves was brutally murdered.
His dedication and valor will never be forgotten.

Our family grieves with you and for you.
We share your agony as we lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Dept. when he was fatally shot on April 23, 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

May you be comforted by the caring and support of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. There are many who will be with you each step of the painful journey you now face.

I hope that the despicable criminal who committed this terrible act will soon be apprehended, and justice served.

This refection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Reaves gave to his community as a law enforcement officer, and to his country through his military service, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 28, 200.

SOMEBODY KILLED A POLICEMAN TODAY...AND A PART OF AMERICA DIED.
A PIECE OF HIS COUNTRY HE SWORE TO PROTECT WILL BE BURIED WITH HIM AT HIS SIDE.
THE SCUM THAT SHOT HIM WILL STAND UP IN COURT WITH COUNSEL DEMANDING HIS RIGHTS,
WHILE A YOUNG WIDOWED MOTHER MUST WORK FOR HER KIDS, AND SPEND MANY LONG, LONELY NIGHTS.
THE BEAT THAT HE WALKED WAS A BATTLE-
FIELD, TOO, JUST AS IF HE'D GONE OFF TO WAR.
THOUGH THE FLAG OF OUR NATION WON'T FLY
AT HALF STAFF, TO HIS NAME THEY WILL ADD
A GOLD STAR.
YES, SOMEBODY KILLED A POLICEMAN TODAY,
IN YOUR TOWN OR MINE.
WHILE WE SLEPT IN COMFORT BEHIND OUR
LOCKED DOORS, A COP PUT HIS LIFE ON THE
LINE.
NOW HIS GHOST WALKS A BEAT ON A DARK
CITY STREET,
AND HE STANDS AT EACH NEW ROOKIE'S SIDE.
HE ANSWERED THE CALL, OF HIMSELF GAVE
HIS ALL.....AND A PART OF AMERICA DIED.

May God Bless you and you family. May God give them the strength to carry on. THANK YOU, Officer Reaves, for keeping US safe. Godspeed.

I noticed I was the same age as he was. Sometimes I think my job is tough but it's people like Stanley who have put their lives at risk who are the hardest workers. God Bless and Godspeed.

I was deeply saddened to read about the loss of Officer Stanley Cornell Reaves. I did not know Officer Reaves but it doesn't matter. We were related by the badge.
To his wife, children, friends and co-workers.....I want them to know there are folks all across this country that care very deeply and will lift them up in prayer.
May you continue to experience the eternal love and endless blessings of our Lord and Savior. God bless you.

NOW IN HEAVEN
The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND GIVE YOU STRENGTH

To the friends, family, and co-workers
my thoughts, heart, and prayers go out to you all. We in Chesapeake had hoped this would never again happen in this area so soon or ever. You were doing your job that day and one of the local idiots took your life way too soon. I pray for your family and the officers and the dispatchers that got the call. Please always remember you will never be forgotten in this life. You gave your life to the city of Norfolk that day but were a HERO all along.
Please keep the faith that all areas are looking hard for the man that did this to you. My prayers to you and you family.
