Reflections for Sergeant Jonathan Paul Dragus

Although I didn't know Sgt. Dragus personally, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. It's always a sad time when an officer's life is lost, especially due to something that didn't have to happen.

On behalf of the Retired Police Officers Association of Oklahoma, we are truly sorry for what has happened. Our prayers are with all of you in this difficult time.

To the family of Sgt. Jonathan Dragus:

You have my deepest regrets and sympathy. I did not know Jon, however, just prior to his death I had the honor of getting to know one of his best friends, Cliff Mueggenborg. I have always believed that you can judge a person by their friends. By getting to know Cliff I can tell that Jon must have been a special person.

Being about the same age and having similar family dynamics, I can not begin to imagine what you are going through. Please know that the prayers of thousands of officers are with you at this time and will continue to be forever.

Jonathan always had a smile and his love for his family was so obvious- as an officer's wife, I can't imagine what Kelly and the family are feeling now, just know that in the "blinking of an eye" we will all meet again in Heaven. My love and prayers to you all...

Jon
I had the HONOR and PRIVILAGE of working with him. It might have been only for a few hours due to I'm on second shift and he was on third.I remember the night of the accident I took a call and as i passed him on the road he got on his CB and in not so many words said i was getting ready to deal with one of the worst kids he had come across. Let me tell you he wasn't wrong. As i was finishing up the call with another officer he showed up as he always did when he knew there might be trouble or a chance he might get to poke a little fun at you. He walked up and had that smile he always had and said "What I tell ya". I said you know at first I thought you were joking with cause this was just an 11 yr old boy how bad could it be but man was I wrong. He just stood there and laughed and said I tried to tell you. Then we started talking about being married versus being single cause I went through a divorce. Which being the person that Jon is he helped me thought the hard times that. Anyways he asked me if it was worth it and i told him that i missed the family part but i liked being single. Then Jon started talking about how much he loved being married to Kelly and being a family. How he loved his new baby boy and his daughter. I then started talking to some citizens that were standing outside. Jon said Hey westside me and Lambert are taking off talk to you later. I said ok talk to yea later gave him a wave. He waved back gave me that smile he always gives got in his car and left. That was the last time i saw my friend but i am glad to know we were able to share that moment. Your watch is over my friend you can rest in peace and we will continue the watch for you.

Kelly
To my partner for life I can't begin to imagine the pain you must be felling. We love you and we are here for you

Jon, you exemplified what a Police Officer is, and you did it well. A FIRE seen in so few was one of the many strong characteristics you possessed. I did not know Jon as well as those who worked with him, but the time I did spend around him made me a better Officer and person. Fighting for his fellow officers, and fighting to put the bad guys away was no big deal to Jon. He just did it because it needed to be done. Kelly, as you reflect on the memory of Jon, know he was loved by all who knew him. God will be with you in the coming days, weeks, and months! Lean on Him the most as He is and wants to be your sufficiency. Know too that your entire OCPD family is here for you.

Jon, I know the Lord has greeted you by now and your presence there has made Heaven a little bit sweeter.

To Sergeant Dragus' family:
Words cannot express how deeply sorry we are for the loss of such a highly respected officer. Please know that your extended family is here for you and you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. As officers wives we all know and understand the dangers of their jobs and because of that we share a special bond and understanding of why they continously offer their own lives to save others. Your husband not only went to be with the Lord as a hero, but as an Angel that served his time here well. He has touched the hearts of many officers and his memory will forever be remembered.

I knew Jon from the beginning, I was his primary training Officer. Jon was the best experience I've ever had training because he was an inspiration. He was agressive, enthusiastic, and not afraid of anything. He was an excellent Officer and will be greatly missed on the streets. But more than that, and most importantly, Jon was a Man of God and trusted his life to Christ. You didn't have to be around Jon for very long before you realized the love that he had for Kelly and the kids. He was a wonderful husband that took care of his family. Jon will be greatly missed but we must keep in mind that he is where we all want to be. One day when this world is gone we will meet up with Jon again, and rejoice in the Lord together!
Kelly we love you, and will always be here for you. Trust God and he will lead you !!!

I am also one that always seemed to see Jon at county jail. I'll always remember his smile, laughter and patience no matter what kind of "deal" he had gotten into. His hard work and dedication to the citizens of OKC, to the department and fellow officers will always be evident. God bless your family, wife and kids. I love you brother and I will see you in heaven.

I have worked at Mastercuts since 1998. I was his Barber and friend.I have cut his hair for years now. And if I could not get to him one of the other stylists would take care of him on the spot. He was a kind man and we have had many disscussions and many laughs together through the years. I will never forget him as long as I live. I had just seen Kelly and Jonathan at the mall with their new bundle of joy. They stoped by Mastercuts to let me see the baby boy that they love so much, they were so happy and that bundle of joy was the light of their love for each other. I laughed with them both and gave them a big hug and that was the last time I saw him. I will miss him greatly and I send my prayers to his beautiful wife Kelly and his baby son and his little girl. He was the best officer I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, may Jonathan rest in peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. I will never forget you Jonathan, your friend and Barber... Robin K. Riddle

I was not a close personal friend of Jon or his family. However, his wife and I went through recruit school together and I had the pleasure of spending some time around him during a temporary assignment last fall. I also had the pleasure of having Jon in my FTO school.
It was during these times that I was able to spend with him that I realized how much he loved being a police officer. It was also during these times that I quickly saw that there was something he loved much more: his family. Jon's wife and children were his heart and soul. It was obvious that his greatest ambition was to care for and provide for his family. He did an outstanding job of both. He dedicated himself to being the husband and father his family so richly deserved.

Jon,
Rest easy my friend. Your service is complete and the job has been done well. The Lord greets you with open arms. You will be sorely missed, and you will never be forgotten.

To Jon's wife, children, and the rest of his family,
Know that we will do everything in our power to lift you up. You have over 1,100 shoulders to lean on. Don't be afraid to do so. We love you all.
