Dear Sgt. Davis:

I'll never forget that day I woke up to my husband's note. My heart sank. Matt always spoke highly of you, and I appreciated how much effort you put into training him. You helped him stay safe and that brought him home to me every night. For this I am so thankful. In your memory I am planning to run the ODMP Pittsburgh 5K. You deserve, and all officers deserve to be remembered.

23The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green [1] pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest [2] my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

AMEN

Until we all get to heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

In your memory.

Mike, not a day goes by that I don't pull out of my driveway and see your still empty house and remember you. Everytime I fire up the bike for a weekend cruise I still see you sitting in your driveway polishing your Harley. I miss our conversations and your stories.

Rest well my friend...

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I can't believe it is a year ago tomorrow that you left us. I do not go a day without seeing your smile and remembering something about you. You were so very dear to us at the Credit Union. You may have been only a part-time officer on the job but you grew to be a full time friend and so special to us all.

Rest in Peace. I know that we will meet again.

Our Dearest Davis Family,
Despite all of the miles between Pennsylvania ad Georgia, we are 1 family. When I attended the Police Memorial in Washington D.c. in May, 2006, I had the pleasure of meeting many of your (young)family members- like Marcus. I was asked if I had any patches or memorabilia from my Department and I did not. I am finally sending your family pins from my Department. I hope the children enjoy them and find comfort through them. It's not much, but it's all I can offer other than prayers. Your family and the Clayton Police Dept. is truly in my heart. I pray that Mike's fellow Officers will find comfort through eachother and happy memories of times spent with Mike. God Bless all of you as you come up on the 1 year anniversary date.
