Reflections for Patrolman John Randolph Wheeler
There was a collective gasp in our dispatch center as I read aloud the details of this accident. We too lost an officer just over 16 months ago. No one can truly appreciate the loss a dispatcher feels unless you have sat at the microphone and heard nothing but silence. I cannot begin to imagine the horror you endured knowing it was your soul mate on the other end of the radio. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. On behalf of the Sterling Heights Communication Center, I wish to extend our heartfelt sympathies to you Mrs. Wheeler. Although no words will lessen your pain, I hope these prayers send from far and wide may somehow console you and get you through.
Rest in peace Officer Wheeler. You have again made the ultimate sacrifice. You will NEVER be forgotten.
God Bless you all!!

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Tonight, October 14, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Patrolman John Wheeler who died in the line of duty earlier today.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
Patrolman Wheeler's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

In 2000, Oklahoma lost 2 officers (OHP/OKCPD) under similar circumstances. It was a horrible night to be working. I knew one of the officers personally. I can only offer the one thing I've learned to the family of Patrolman Wheeler...take it one day, one hour, one minute at a time. Your in my thoughts. May John be watching over us with Matt and Jeff.
