Reflections for Police Officer Matthew John Redding

Hey bro I'll miss your crazy smile and laid back way. I'll remember the Best of The West SWAT competition we competed in and that breaching class we took together. I'm sorry I never got to go on that ride along to see how you conducted your 11550 deuces. Rest in peace brother you were one bad hombre.

I didn't know Matt, but he is the reason I want to become a Police Officer. Thank you for your service Matt. You are a true hero. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

The Final Inspection

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

I can remember working in the PCSO jail on graves and thinking I'm going to have to book three of Redding's DUI arrests tonight. I did not know at that time that I would have the honor of working with him at Rocklin PD. I will miss hearing you ask me "what's up, kid?" You are my hero, rest in peace. Your legacy is an inspiration to everyone that knew you. You will never be forgotten.

John, Marilyn, and Jessica,
You are in our thoughts and prayers. May God give you the strength you need during this difficult time.

FINAL CALL
An Angel In The Sky Must Leave His Place Of Rest,
Gently Tucking His Wings Beneath His Armored Vest.
For Duty Has Called, There Is Much Work To Do
Little Did He Know, This One Is Dressed In Blue.
Arriving On The Scene, He Knows Just What To Say,
"Follow Me, Fallen Brother, I'll Show You The Way."
"Your Duty Has Ended, Your Work Is Now Through."
"Come Hang Your Hat Beside Mine. I'm A Cop, Too."

Jessie, Jessica, you are in our thoughts & prayers as are Matt's family, friends & department. He is watching over you & each of his shielded brother & sister everyday. His bravery will never be forgotten and neither will he.

To Matt, His Family, and Jessica Navarette,
First I would like to say how sad and sorry I am that this happened to you. Your son was obviously a wonderful Christian man and is definately sitting with Jesus now. I am the cousin of the man who killed Matt, and my family's heart breaks for you and all the people that Eric hurt. I would have posted sooner, but my parents and I did not find out until last night. He has no excuse for his actions, and needs to be responsible for the life he took. I, and my parents are praying for you all. I can't say engouh how sorry I am and I know that God will get you through this unnecessary tragedy. If the Redding family or Jessica would like to contact me and my family please e-mail me @ [email protected], if not I genuinely understand.

May God Bless you all

This is in honor of Matt's favorit scripture:

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does propspers.

Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor the sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 1: 1-6

On October 9th 2005, The Lord was told a message from an angel. In the message this small angel spoke quietly in His presence, saying "Father, I have brought you great news once again" and God spoke with a big powerful voice and said with a loving smile, "I already know, we have inherited another battle warrior and his name is Matthew Redding. He has served Me and his fellow man well, I am eternally grateful for the job he has done, for in it he was able to glorify my name and presence, while giving unselfishly to those he served. I have promoted Matt Redding to My Plane in Heaven, and from this day forward, he will live in Peace, he will never feel Fear, nor Cry again. This I say and it shall Be Forever. Now send the others forward to Open Their Wings and Open The Gates, I want to hear them singing with Joy, "Welcome Home Matthew Redding, You Have Served Him Well, Here You Will See All Around You, Those In Blue, Who Went Before You, and They Now Welcome You Too" God then spoke to another angel saying "I want you to send a troop down to those who grieve their loss, and feel fear, I want the angel wings around those Children, That Family, and Every Comrade he served with, for they shall blot away the tears and numb the time awhile, although they will be sad to know he is gone to them, they will surely be joyful to know, That Today he Reigns In Heaven With Me and My Promise to them is This, his death on Earth is not forever, it is but a tick in time, you are promised by Me as it is Written, the next time you see Matthew Redding, it will be in Heaven, where time, tears and fears are never again, no more" "The next time will not be but a short tick in time, but rather as I Have Always Promised, Forever, Eternal." "Till then, march on and know I am there with you this day, as yesterday, and will be till time is no-more"

John, Marilyn and Mark, We want to give our deepest regrets on the loss of Matt. He was a wonderful guy, I have memories of him coming into the resturant before he went off to Bel-Air and him always having a big smile on his face. He was such a pleasure to be around. You now have an angel in heaven watching over you. You are in our thoughts and prayers always!

Matt,

I first want to say that you had a direct impact on my life, even though you didn't even know my name. Our meetings were brief, but your life will influence me forever. I admired your attitude, your discipline, your courage, and your compassion. You've influenced so many lives of Rocklin's youth. The girls all had a crush on you, and us guys all wanted to be like you. I constantly saw you at church, the gym, and on patrol. I will miss seeing you, and I will always admire and remember what you did for our community.

To the Redding Family and Jessica:

My heart goes out to you. We all know how close Matt walked with the Lord. I didn't know Matt too well on a personal basis, but in our few conversations it was apparent he didn't walk alone. You raised and molded a man who I and many others looked up to and had great respect for. I will always remember your son, he was and will continue to be a role model of mine. God Bless you, and bring you comfort in knowing Matt is waiting to see you all and Jessica again.

Much Love and Respect,

Everyone carries a particular memory or incident with them in their minds about Matt like those that were shared at his candlelight vigil. For me, it will always be that Matt wasn't just huge in physical stature, but everything about him was huge. His heart, his warmth, his sincerity, his smile, and his sense of humor. Everytime Matt and I would first say "what's up?" to each other he'd always follow up with, "Wanna armwrestle?" I cracked up everytime. Not only are Matt's arms the size of my head but my arms are the size of his finger. The opposition was comedy. He'd always say, "You could beat me." Matt was the biggest man with the most gentle heart. It's unfair to us that he's gone so early, but I also believe Matt earned his early ride back home to our Lord. His altruistic approach and attitude knew no tire and God saw that Matt deserved to be beside him in Heaven where there is no more crime and there is no more sadness. Our time here is a test, and Matt as usual passed with flying colors.

While our beloved officer has fallen, a great angel has risen. We lost a nonpareil friend, but gained the most incredible guardian. Matt will continue to watch after us all even more so now in his passing than he was able to do in his life. I find content knowing that out of all of us to have been granted such a great gift to rejoin our Father it was, in the end, awarded to the man most deserving. God is fair, this is proof. I miss you my friend. I think about you everyday. We'll rejoice again in reunion.
