Reflections for Police Officer Matthew John Redding
Happy Thanksgiving Matt. Send Jess extra love
November 22, 2006
Sometimes it seems so long ago and then again it seems like yesterday. Our hearts still broken, we miss you so much. You were such a man of courage and strength, both outward strength and inner, because you always cared. Our family continues to feel the loss, I just can't put it into words. I look forward to the time I see you again and with your mom and dad embracing you again. It will ge a time of such great joy!!!

Yesterday another officer in California has been taken from us due to the careless actions of a drunken driver.
Our hearts go our to these fallen heros who were doing nothing more than protecting the public.
We always remember the hero Matt is and will always pray for these heroes.

Even though time marches on we will always remember Matt for all our lives. Mr. and Mrs. Redding raised a fine young man who gave his life protecting the community. God bless them and Matt's brother, Mark, another fine young man, who lost so much when Matt left us. Matt left an impression on so many that he lives on in our hearts forever.

Another tragedy yesterday...the loss of another one of our law enforcement officers here in Sacramento, not far from where Matt was taken from us. It is so sad to see these fine young men devote their lives to community service and then sacrifice their lives. Matt and now Deputy Sheriff Mitchell, as well as many others will forever remain in our hearts. Rest easy..our heroes. You will never be forgotten.

Matt Redding...a true hero, not only for his service, but always for being such a wonderful person to all, a loving son and brother, and for his belief in the Lord. We miss you Matt.

Matt, on 10-09-06 at 0345 hours, I jumped into my truck to be at your grave side at 0408. I turned on the radio and there was a pause and then the song "Who you'd be today" by Kenny Chesney started playing. I then felt you next to me and couldn't hardly move until the song was over. I miss you Bro. As the song says, "See you again someday."

The candle light vigil last night to mark the one year anniversary of Matt's passing was so lovely. So many people were there to pay their respects to Mr. and Mrs. Redding and to honor the memory of Matt. Mr. Redding spoke about the love, pride he has for his son. He thanked everyone for their support and many of us were moved to tears by the words of this wonderful father. Mr. and Mrs. Redding raised 2 wonderful sons. What awesome
parents they are! It was so touching to see the Redding Family, which now includes Mark's beautiful bride.
God bless this loving family, who lost so much.

We hung out for a year or so and we always had a good time. I just found about this website today and I just wanted to say hi. It was a terrbile thing to hear about what happened. But I know that we'll all meet up again. All your family, friends, and everyone here will all be able to share more laughs and good times. I'm hoping heaven is everything they say it is. I know that you're seeing it firsthand.

I can't believe a year has passed since you went to be with the Lord. I always thought of you as my "little brother". I can still remember the day that you were born. I am so thankful for the time that you were here and the family times that we shared. I just miss your smiling face. I don't know if I ever told you how proud I was of the person that you became and the difference that you made in this world.

Matt,
It has been a year since you were taken from us. You are now watching over everyone and protecting us from up above. I still remember Jr. High and playing football with you and David. Boy how time flies.
There is not a day that goes by that you don't cross my mind in one way or another. I still find myself looking at every Rocklin patrol car to see if it is you.
May you rest in peace.
Love always,

The first anniversary of your end of watch has arrived and my thoughts are with your loved ones, especially your parents as I know their pain. Not a day has gone by that they have not thought about you or shed a silent tear. You have not been forgotten and are a true hero. Keep watch over your loved ones and those individuals still out on patrol watching over the Thin Blue Line.

Matt --
The memories are still so vivid of that fateful day one year ago. So many lives were changed that day and none of us will ever be the same.
It is truly amazing to read these reflections and realize just how many lives you touched -- and that should come as no surprise to anyone given the great person that you were. A hero and brother to so many. And, of course, you will always hold a special place in my heart for what you were to Justin. There just doesn't seem to be an appropriate word to describe what a remarkable person you were.
We know you are looking down on us and helping us to cope on this very difficult day.
You are in our thoughts every, single day. Loved and missed every, single day.
Rest in Peace.

Hi Matt
I can not believe that a year has gone by. I know that things are still hard for your family and Jess and I hope that they are all finding the comfort that they need today. We are thinking of you and them. We miss you, everyone misses you!

Hey kid, today is the one year anniversary of the day the lord took you to heaven. We all came to see you this morning with your parents and reflected on your wonderful life and how you touched all of us. We miss you so much. I sat by your dad last week at the Del Oro football game. He had a great time watching your old school beat Nevada Union. I love ya kid and will see you again one day.

Remembering the service and honoring the sacrifice of Officer Redding one year ago. I know it is impossible to make sense of something so senseless, but I hope it helps to know he is not forgotten. Your entire family will be in my prayers on this day.
