Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Kevin Eugene Elium
Thank you for your service and know that your sacrifice will never be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

I’ll never forget the day we entered the Army together. Unfortunately I couldn’t find where you were stationed after graduation. I went to the 2nd Ranger Bn at Fort Lewis. First we invaded Panama then the Gulf War kicked up. I left the Army and went to work at Seattle PD. I always wondered where you were every time I drove through Castle Rock on my way to my home in Central Oregon. I was so shocked when I finally found you on this site. Something inside me knew you would be in law enforcement. I just wish I had another chance to catch up with you. You will be remembered forever by not only your close friends, but those you were kind to along the way.

Kevin, it’s been so many years since we entered the Army on the same day. We went to different basic training units and duty stations. I went to the 2nd Ranger Bn but could never locate you. First we invaded Panama, then the Gulf War kicked up. I left the Army and went to Seattle PD. I thought of you every time I drove through Castle Rock on my way home to central Oregon. I knew some day we would reconnect...but when I saw you on this site I was crushed. I know your family is proud of you. You were such a kind person and a dependable friend.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Well brother, things have still not gotten easier. I met with Pop (Marty), and the kids a few days ago, we buried Grandma. She now rests just a few feet from you. The kids are doing great, they are an awesome reflection of you. I miss you brother, I come to see your resting place quite often, not because you are there, but so we can talk. Brother Russell is just a few feet away also.
I rest easier knowing that we will see each other again, but until we do, I will watch over things here, as we had always agreed upon. Just wanted you to know, I am watching over the family, as you watch over us all, I Love you brother, I will see you again, in His time.....

we give our loved ones back to G-d,
And just as He first gave them to us,
And did not lose them in the giving,
So we have not lost them in returning them to Him...
For life is eternal.
Love is immortal.
Death is only a horizon,
And a horizon is nothing but the limit
of our earthy sight.

It has taken me 24yrs to finially find information of where you were at. I wanted to badly to see you again to let you know your Aunt loves you. Only to find you are no longer with us.
But by reading all these kind words on the internet that those who worked with you and knew you over the years, You grew up to be such a wonderful young man. Whow,
I am so proud to read and hear of your accomplishments, and two children to boot there are no words to tell you what I feel right now.
But my heart breaks like everyone elses. May you rest in peace. May G-d hold you tight until we meet again, and may He watch over and guide your children.

I was an inmate at BWDF during Dep. Elium's work there. He showed compassion and always took the time out to talk to me and let me know that I didn't have to live the way I was. He inspired me to clean my life up and for that I am eternally grateful. I always hoped I would see him again, but not like this. My condolences to his family. He was a beautiful human being.

Feburary 12, 2005, You came to my home to answer a call. I had a fashlight to guide my path down the road, that light manifested at my doorstep, my prayer was to all whom enter my home the Lord God would be their shield and fortress. Surrounding my driveway are 12 Palm Trees, representing The 12 Tribes in the Old Testament, 12 months in a year, 12 the number of completion. Psalms 17:8 "Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me under the shadow of your wings". In the secret place of the Most High God, you are surrounded by the greatest Love of All.

The cry of the city like a siren's song
Wailing over the rooftops the whole night long
Saw a shooting star like a diamond in the sky
Must be someone's soul passing by
These are the streets
Where we used to run where your Papa's from
These are the days
Where you become what you become
These are the streets
Where the story's told
The truth unfolds
Darkness settles in
Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so i can see
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength
To carry on, carry on
Don't wanna be a hero
Just an everyday man
Trying to do the job the very best he can
But now it's like living on borrowed time
Out on the rim, over the line
Always tempting fate like a game of chance
Never wanna stick around to the very last dance
Sometimes i stumble and take a hard fall
Loose(?) hold your grip off the wall
Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so i can see
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength to carry on
Carry on
I thought i saw him walking by the side of the road
Maybe trying to find his way home
He's here but not here
He's gone but not gone
Just hope he knows if I get lost
Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so i can see
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength to carry on
To carry on
