Reflections for Police Officer Brian Steven Gregg
Officer Gregg,
The words for this reflection are not coming easily. When I read the circumstances of your death, so many things raced through my mind...
First, please accept my sincere condolences, for no family should ever have to bear such pain. Second, thank you for saving lives by taking a drunk driver off the streets. Third, you did not die in vain. Your sacrifice will forever be a reminder that no "detail" is ever routine. And finally, THANK YOU Officer Gregg for wearing that uniform every day to protect your citizens, keeping them safe.
To the Newtown Borough PD,
Smile when you think of Brian, and laugh when you share your fondest memories and funny stories. Most of all, hold each other close and take not one moment for granted.

I extend my deepest sympathy to the wife, son, family, friends and fellow officers of Officer Gregg. When you read something like this it makes you sick to your stomach while it breaks your heart and shatters your reasoning. This was a cold-blooded act by a cowardly excuse for a human being. I hope justice will be served and there will be no bleeding hearts that will excuse this perpetrator because he may have been under the influence. May God grant this family the graces they will need to cope with this very sad loss. I pray that both the other officer as well as the hospital technician recover fully. May God's perpetual light shine upon Officer Gregg and may he rest in God's eternal peace. You will not be forgotten for you have lived the life of a hero and made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving your community. God bless you and your family.

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God."

It saddens me every time a Brother in Blue is killed, but with your sacrifice, we all gain a Guardian Angel. Watch over us Brother, as we carry on each and every day. May God bless you, your family and your fellow Officers of the Newtown Borough Police Department.
"Lest We Forget…."
I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face.
"In the line of duty,” I hear them say:
My family now the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee,
I ask for all here from the past:
Dear God, let my name be the last.

My husbands cousin, MIchael H. Wise, II was killed in the line of duty a little over a year ago. I often come to this site to read his reflections. My heaert sinks everytime I see another name added. I am a wife of a Police Officer. The job is never routine. My heart goes out to your wife and child as they try to find answers to this sensless tragedy. I deal with the loss of my cousin everyday. I still don't have an answer for his death. I pray for my husband everyday as he heads out the door. I know the death of his cousin is on his mind as well. But I also know that Michael will watch over him.
Police officers have a passion for their job that some people will never understand.
To Officer Gregg's wife may you find comfort and support among your family and the Law Enforcement family. You are not alone. You have a long road ahead of you, but I know you have a special angel that is smiling down on you.
God bless you and your family.
Your husband and Dad is a true hero and no one will ever forget that.

TO: The family; loved ones; friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord ! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent upon me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer; and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well. AMEN. *** REST IN PEACE ***

No words can explain the heartache a department goes through when we have such a great loss of one of our own. Our department is also a small one in a small community and we lost a Deputy 2 years ago. It is amazing how the law enforcement family is there to help comfort each other in thier time of grief and sadness. Our hearts and our prayers go out to the family, friends and the Newtown PD of Officer Gregg.

God bless Ofc. Gregg, his wife and his child. May they take forward from this day all they learned and shared with him, hold one good piece of it tight to their hearts and share the rest with this world and make it a little better place. And please God, may this be the last.

Brother,
as your final struggle against evil unfolded last night, at that exact hour I was celebrating the Eucharist for the feast of St. Michael and All Angels. We had reached the prayers of the liturgy, the closing part so fitting for those left behind in this valley of tears: (I apologize for the all capitals)
WATCH, DEAR LORD, WITH THOSE WHO WAKE, OR WATCH, OR WEEP,
AND GIVE YOUR ANGELS CHARGE OVER THOSE WHO SLEEP.
KEEP THE SICK, REST THE WEARY, BLESS THE DYING,
SOOTHE THE SUFFERING, PITY THE AFFLICTED, SHIELD THE JOYOUS, AND ALL FOR YOUR LOVE'S SAKE.

I always come to this website to read the reflections left for one of my friends who was killed in the line of duty. I hate seeing another name added to the list. When is this going to come to an end??? My thoughts and prayers are with your family and loved ones at this terrible time. There is now another child growing up without his father because of some senseless jerk. Thank you for your commitment and dedication. You will never be forgotten.
