6 years, and still…the events of the days leading to your death, play in my mind like a bad movie…It was just a 21 day assignment..I helped you pack, drove you to the airport, then I filled my days with work and thoughts of you…21 days..you had been on longer assignments..this was nothing…then the knock on the door…my world crumbled and it is still crumbling…it was a just a 21 day assignment. you should have been home by now……

I cannot believe it has been 6 years since you passed away. The years go by, we get older, but the memories are just as strong today as they were 6 years ago. I know you are in a better place but you left us too soon! You will be forever in our hearts!

Reflecting today about my friend Dan, Your picture hangs on the wall of my office; you and your family are never forgotten, when on a trip to Turkey at the last home of the Virgin Mary, I Light a candle for you and yours, as you would for me, truly I think of you every time I see a candle. With every new class of young rangers I speak of you, when talking about how fragile life can be, and like many others have left us so soon.
Dan you rest in peace, and may God also give peace to those you love on earth.

5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months, now 5 years....We look to the future but cling to the past..afraid to let go...afraid to lose the fragments of memory that we hold in our hearts and our minds. As you drift through the heaven's, know that my heart will find yours again...

We have learned to live without you
We have learned to move on
We have learned to accept the pain
But we can never forget that you are gone
It still hurts every day
Sometimes we still cry at night
Especially on days like today
We just want to scream and fight
All the good deeds you did
Will not soon be forgot
And our memories of you
Can not be sold or bought
The world never should have lost
Such a man as you
Missed so deeply by your friends and your familly
Sadly, our memories will have to do....
Happy Birthday... We love you.

It has been 4 years since your passing. You would be so proud of your family and I wish you could be here to see them . You have more grandchildren. Oz, Zoie,Trevor, Mia and now little Sophia. Your kids, Dan & Heather miss you more than you could ever know. Bec, your wife, soulmate, best friend and love of your life is finally learning to live again. Why am I telling you this? I just wanted you to know that you are not and will never be forgotten. I still hear your laugh and I still see your smile as if it was yesterday and not 3 years ago. May you rest in peace.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
