Reflections for Police Officer Shawn Barrington Silvera

Officer Silvera, may you rest in God's sweet peace. I pray that that same peace, the peace that surpasses our human understanding, will guard the hearts and minds of all of those who taught you, partnered with you, learned from you, were served by you, and who loved you. May those who knew you share their love for you and their precious memories of you with your family. They will need both. Thank you for your service and courage.

There is no words or sayings that can make you feel better or stop the hurt felt deep in your families heart. The only comfort is knowing that your husband and father will be watching you always. God is our Chief and will watch over us all. God bless this family.

To the fellow officers, family and freinds of Officer Shawn Silvera, may I offer my deepest condolances. Hearing that the subject was from South Dakota almost makes me feel related to the incidnet somehow, as well as it makes me sadder knowing that if we had caught him first Officer Silvera may have gone on to have an illustrious career. Knowing the pain of losing a fellow officer Deputy William Davis EOW 11-03-03, I wish you all Gods strength to get through the times ahead. The ability to have the power to be the one with the spikes the next time, as well as keeping in your mind the lessons that Officer Silvera has taught all of us. To the family and freinds and the community may you also be looked upon from the lord as he looked upon us in our time of loss as well as the loss of a local boy while dedicating his life to the citizens of CO, Travis Sass, EOW 6-29-04. Having been through the loss of the department and a loss of the community, my heartfelt sympathy to you all, and GOD'S SPEED TO GET THROUGH IT ALL!

Moody County Sheriffs Office South Dakota

I just read a story of how this officer saved a little boy that was spitting up blood. This officer saved the little boys life. This angel digused as a officer finally got his wings. God Speed Sir.

Shawn

I was about ready to go 1-7 when I saw the headline regarding your death. I was suddenly reminded once again that going 10-7 is not a routine to be taken for granted. I try to remind myself everyday how quickly life can be changed and our loved ones taken from us. You will not be forgotten as you have now entered the heavens with your brothers and sisters of blue.
My thoughts and prayers go to your family and co-workers.

Shawn - I had the priviledge of attending your funeral. After hearing of the life you led and your acts of kindness, I have realized, you not only made a difference while you were here, but you continue to make a difference in the lives of so many. Thank you, for everything that you have done for so many people. When I got home from your funeral I looked at my family and vowed to never take a moment for granted again...and I won't! Hearing of all you accomplished in just 32 short years is inspiring and made me realize I can do so much more with my life.

So, thank you Shawn for being a role model and an inspiration!

Rest in peace, Brother in Blue. You will not be forgotten!

To Shawn's family! I am so sorry about your loss. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

As I stood in formation with my brothers and sisters in law enforcement to pay our respects to brother officer Silvera I remembered a saying we had when I served in Viet Nam, it was "For those who have fought for it freedom has a taste the protected will never know". I beleive those of us in law enforcement can relate to this. Officer Silvera, you paid the ultimate sacrifice, you will not be forgotten. The way you lived your life and the way you protected and served is an example for those of us still protecting and serving to follow. I pray God will uplift and give strength to your wife and family.
Thank you my brother!

Shawn, you will be missed by so many of us who had the opportunity to know you. I don't know if you knew the difference you made in the lives of the youth at Epiphany, but our lives have forever been influenced by your example. Your funeral liturgy on Sunday was a beautiful testament to your life - although it was short, it had so much depth. Thank you for all the time you invested in us and in the many others you touched in the course of your life. Your family has our prayers, love, and support. God bless you!!!

The skys wept as we stood in formation, waiting for you to be with us. Thousands gathered in the parking lot, waiting for the roar of the motorcade to arrive. It was such a special time. Your family and friends were so strong and we were all there for you, brother.

Your work here is done, we'll take it from here on out. It is your time to rest and be with God.

You will never be forgotten, Officer Silvera.
