I wrote this Friday morning 9-2-05 as I was waiting to get ready for Kelso's funeral.

If today should be my last, look towards the future and remember the past. If today God should call my name, don't cry many tears or feel any blame. Hold me near and deep in your heart. My lesson taught will never part. I answered the call God sent me to. He chooses his angels, these words are true. I love you all and I know you loved me. So, sleep tonight knowing, I've been set free.

Rest in Peace Kelso, your gone but you will never be forgotten. We love you.

To my brother, Officer Golden, may you rest in peace, may your family feel the comfort of God.
To my brothers and sisters of the HPD, time will heal but the scar on your heart will remain, never letting you forget Daniel. Since I left HPD, I have walked where you trod today and it is a painful path, but we can't stop... We must go on and fight the good fight, so that our fallen will not have died in vain.

Daniel,
Although we weren't technically kin, I always felt like your little sister and looked up to you. You were always smiling and laughing. We always had so much fun playing rook and eating on the fourth of July. I remember one fourth of July before I went into high school. We were sitting on the tailgate of Pa Corder's truck eating. I had noticed that you always wore a necklace with the letters that spelled out "GOLDEN". I thought that was so cool. Within a few weeks, you came over to my house with a necklace for me that spelled out "CORDER". I loved it. But that's how you were. Always thinking of other people. I still have that necklace and I will wear it with so such pride and honor in memory of you, my big brother. I love you and your family and wish them peace. I just want you to know that I am so proud of you and you will never be forgotten.

Kelso,

I don't know how to begin other than to say I feel blessed to have known for such a short three years. I vividly remember the day you came in for your interview wanting to be a Police Officer. Your smile, honesty and white socks. I could see the pain in your words and heart as you spoke of the untimely death of your young son. I learned then about you what others soon found out. Each day in the academy I was able to watch you mature to become an officer. As fate, and my good fortune would have it, I was later assigned to work with you at the West Precinct. You were truly an outstanding officer and certainly one of my favorites.

Your tragic death has left a void in my heart that I continually seek out answers from God. I know that you would have been embarrased for the "fuss" people were making over your death. Understand that we needed it as much as your family. People I know and a lot I have never met ask about you. I am always proud to describe your good nature, never saying anything bad about anyone and always with that unmistakable smile on your face. I know that you and your academy classmates remember the day of inspection when you had to know the academy chain of command and their respective titles. Everyone was hoping to get it right or face push-ups all morning. Who could forget when you were asked what my position was and instead of saying Training Director you said "He's the Man!"

Selfishly we all want you back with us. You had and continue to have an impact in my life. Hopefully we will take the lesson with us to treat everyday as if it were our last. I have no doubt in my mind that you are now re-united and playing with your little boy. Enjoy it my friend for you have deserved it. I know that you will keep a special eye on us here until it becomes our time to join you. Please allow me the honor to say, "Kelso, you are the Man!"

What an example Daniel has set for the rest of us to follow. We should honor him by living our lives and doing our duty with more of a postitve attitude, about ourselves, each other, and the profession that we have chosen. You left us too early Daniel, but thank you for all you have left behind. We will meet again.
