Officer Smith will never be forgotten. Everyone and Brookwood Transport had worked with him on scences and smile and laugh still lives on in those of us who worked with him. He will be missed dearly.

In 1978 I was a member of the FOP group that visited your fine city for a convention. At this time I met many of APD's officers. As a former Homicide Squad detective who has handle too many police officers killed in the line of duty I can only pray that this will not happen again and that the family of the officers will fine solace in the bond of all officers and let them know we care about them and feel their pain. God be with them .

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, coworkers, and friends of Offcier Smith. Many of our brothers and sisters are gone, but none are ever forgotten. May you rest in peace. Then I heaard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? and Who will go for us? And I said "Here I am. Send Me!" ISAIH 6:8

I visit this site often with the hopes that its list will not get longer. When I see a new name on the list my heart drops to the floor knowing that another Father, Mother, Son, Daughter, etc.. has given their life in the line of duty. It continually brings tears to my eyes when I read the personal reflections that are left by the fallen Officer's Family and Friends. I hope you can rest easy knowing that this brave HERO is watching over us from his place in Heaven. He served with honor and will never be forgotten. Rest Easy Officer Smith . We will truly miss you. God Bless you and your Family.

While it is no consolation for your loss, our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Officer Smith.

While no member of our agency had the privilege to have known him personally, we are certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.

Rest in peace officer; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

Rick and Mike
Everyday when I pass by the mail boxes at the substation, I see yours and Mike's and my heart fills up with hurt and I desperatly try not to cry. Your names are still up and next to your boxes they have added RIP to it and the date you gave your lives. Once the hurt is gone I find strength and courage to go out and protect the way that you did. I know my father misses you both a great deal as you are no longer here to take calls with him, but he and I go out unto our streets and protect with great courage and we await the day we will all meet again. We love you both and pray to the Lord our God to give your families the strength to get through this. God Bless the Smith and King family.

We are all feeling the loss of a Great Officer. Your death showed tremendous courage as you died attempting to rescue another fallen Officer/Friend while under gun fire. It is now that you find everlasting peace. Please watch over the rest of us, as we continue to do our duty, as you did yours. Thank you Richard, we will miss you.

Richard...

My family attended your funeral to honor both your time on the job and the great sacrifice you made to keep our city safe.

My daughter and son have always taken for granted that 'dad will be home' at the end of shift. Today's service made them realize exactly how dangerous this world is without people who are willing to lay their lives on the line to defend our freedom. I believe they will be better for this - see, you are still teaching new tricks even after you are gone.

You and Mike were known to my husband. He had the great honor to serve on the Honor Guard for both services and to play Taps for Richard as well. I know it was difficult to get through the service with a dry eye, but he knew that God was holding you in His hands and would keep your family safe and grant them comfort as well. He played with all his heart for your final farewell and will never forget you.

May your family have peace and comfort in the knowledge that you will all be together again and that you can watch over them from the streets of heaven.

Peace and rest well, your watch is done.
