Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Michael R. King

I'll never forget the night that my sister, an APD officer called me in tears. Two of her friends were violently taken from her. As a big brother I tried to console her, but my thoughts drifted to those of wives and children and sisters and brothers. In the end there was nothing I could do but cry with her. And we cried for them. I didn't know the two men who died defending our city. But I offer my gratitude, and my appreciation in the form of a poem. This poem is a re-write from one that holds deep emotion to me.

Eternal Father, Strong To Save
Whose arm doth protect our fallen brave

May they patrol the heavens far and wide
so in peace and serenity we reside

Our tears of grief we will not hide
for happiness of heaven can abide.

Oh hear when our prayers are cried
for fallen officers not at our side.

so that others may live...

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, coworkers, and friends of Offcier King. Many of our brothers and sisters are gone, but none are ever forgotten. May you rest in peace. Then I heaard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? and Who will go for us? And I said "Here I am. Send Me!" ISAIH 6:8

I visit this site often with the hopes that its list will not get longer. When I see a new name on the list my heart drops to the floor knowing that another Father, Mother, Son, Daughter, etc.. has given their life in the line of duty. It continually brings tears to my eyes when I read the personal reflections that are left by the fallen Officer's Family and Friends. I hope you can rest easy knowing that this brave HERO is watching over us from his place in Heaven. He served with honor and will never be forgotten. Rest Easy Officer King . We will truly miss you. God Bless you and your Family.

While it is no consolation for your loss, our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Officer King.

While no member of our agency had the privilege to have known him personally, we are certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.

Rest in peace officer; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

Dear Mike, I had the pleasure of meeting you for the first time at UMNH, where I work, three weeks before you were killed. I had such a nice conversation with you. You said that you knew my husband and that he was a good officer. Even though I spoke to you briefly, I felt as though I'd known you much longer. You will be missed by us all. It has been hard for all of us to come to terms with your death, but I am comforted to know that you are truly with God now. We will never forget you.

We wanted once again to state how special our relationship and friendship has and continues to be for us over the years. The special times we shared reach back to the days at Friars North when Debbie and Mike started to date, continued on to when we use to observe and interact with the family at middle school and AYBL games. The memories continued on when Mike did rod iron work for our home and most recently completed work for our daughter in her new home and recently when Mike came to our house to discuss a rod iron fence. Mike and I spent time together reflecting on our kids, our professional lifes and the work that our wives were completing. I will always remember the qualtiy times Mike and I shared together and the mutual respect we had for each other and the work we did for people. Please continue to know that our prayers and support are offered to you. We will stay in touch in future years and continue to be there if we can help in anyway. God Bless You--the Briggs Family.

There is no explanation why these deaths happen to experinced officers; it!s something that we all face everyday we go to work. Iam sure that this officer!s main objective was to do his job, and to come home to his wife, and children at the end of shift.
Me, and my family!s prayers go with you, your famly, fellow officers ,and friends

GOD BLESS YOU MIKE AND MAY YOU REST IN PEACE. I ALWAYS LOOKED UP TO YOU AS A ROLE MODEL AND FEEL TRULY BLESSED TO HAVE KNOWN YOU. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN MY BROTHER:

IT SOUNDS LIKE THNDER FAR AWAY...

IT SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER FAR AWAY,BUT THE SKIES ARE BLUE AND BRIGHT...
AND SOON THEY CREST THE HILL NEARBY, AND RIDE INTO OUR SIGHT.
THEY SHAKE THE GROUND WITH POWERFUL SOUND, AND THEY MAKE SOME HEARTS BEAT FAST...
THEY LOOK SO PROUD AND NOBLE, LIKE KNIGHTS COME FROM THE PAST.

SIDE BY SIDE, THEY ALWAYS RIDE, AND SEEM TO MOVE AS ONE...
FROM EARLY IN THE MORNING LIGHT, TO THE SETTING OF THE SUN.
AND CHILDREN POINT AND WAVE TO THEM, FROM CARS THAT PASS THEM BY...
AND YOUNG ONES ASK THEIR PARENTS, WHY THE MEN HAVE MIRRORS FOR EYES.

THEY RIDE THE ROADS, AND FIGHT FOR GOOD, AND DEFEND SMALL ONES LIKE YOU...
THEY ASK TO RIDE AND DO WITH PRIDE, AND SOMETIMES THEY ARE FEW.
LIKE MEN OF STEEL, ON SILVER WINGS, THEY SPARKLE IN THE LIGHT...
THEN WITH A ROAR AND RUMBLE, THEY RIDE OUT OF OUR SIGHT.

SOMETIMES WHEN ONE HAS FALLEN, NEVER TO RIDE AGAIN...
YOU CAN HEAR THE OTHERS CALLLING, LIKE THUNDER ON THE WIND.
SIDE BY SIDE, THEY SLOWLY RIDE, AND THEIR THUNDER IS A MOURNFUL SOUND...
AND THE MIRRORS HIDE THEIR EYES FROM US, WHEN TEARDROPS FALL TO THE GROUND.

SO IF YOU SEE ONE RIDING, AND YOU LOOK INTO HIS FACE...
YOU SEE YOUR REFLECTION IN HIS EYES, YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE SAFE.
FOR MOTORMEN ARE A SPECIAL BREED, THEY LOVE TO RIDE THE WIND...
AND WHEN YOU HEAR THE THUNDER BOOM, THE FALLEN ONES RIDE AGAIN.
