Well... My memories of you are many. On a department of 1,000+, unfortunately, you cannot work with everybody. Still, the best memory is when when I was an Internal Affairs (IA)sergeant and took the call/complaint about a traffic (motorcycle) officer 'showing off and riding a wheelie on a police motorcycle in front of God and everybody'. You and I know, yeah, you did it, but it was for the right audience at the right time... put lot of sport bikers in their place didn't you?!?!?! And a full city block at that? (You rock!!) Killed that complaint outright... 'yeah, right... who can do that? Little did they know you dirt bike experiences....) I never told you you how much I admired your integrity on the 'JB' experience, but as much as I have seen out of thousands of police officers on two sides of the country, you are among the top five. Godspeed, Mike!!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I remember Officer King volunteering at Hawthorne Elem. where his wife Debbie King taught first grade to my son Tres. Michael seemed a patient and loving man. I think about Officer King often and also I think about Debbie and her sons. Bless this family, now and always! Love Carol

Thank you for your service. Words cannot express how much I trully appreciate what you and your fellow officers do. in the bible there a verse that seems to sum up the true idea of being a police officer is, In John 15:13, it says...Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
Again to all law enforcement officers thank you for your service.

To the family and loved ones of Officer Michael King and his fellow officers with the Albuquerque Police Department:
On this the first anniversary of Mike's tragic death, I wanted to honor and remember him today. Mike's professionalism and dedication will never be forgotten.
In reading the loving reflections left by his friends and co-workers I can see that he was very well respected and is sorely missed. I hope that God is holding him in the sweetest part of his heart and the most gentle part of his soul.
I am so sorry that Mike was robbed of his life so tragically, but through his heroism and the profound sense of duty with which he lived his life, he made an immeasurable difference. May his spirit continue to soar and may his memory continue to inspire.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Mike gave to his community and the citizens of New Mexico, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 18, 2005.

"The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who didn't do anything about it" Albert Einstein.
Thank you for doing something about it. I will be thinking of your family at the Memorial in DC and hoping your family feels your presence there with them as the whole nation honors your sacrifice.
An office mate of mine tells me stories about you at the kickboxing classes she took with you. As she was talking about needing some new equipment, she told me she'd would have loved to get you some new shin guards. You'd know why. Her explanation was funny..it made me smile to think that such a simple thing as this could remind someone of your life and what you meant to them.
