Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family, friends and co-workers. Jay posted a reflection on this website when Ofc Molly Bowden was killed. I believe what he wrote summed up how we all feel and shows the kind of dedication that Jay showed in his profession.
I tell my family on a regular basis that we must all die one day. Should I pass before I'm ninety in my sleep, I can only hope my death is in the service of my community. As much as we will all miss are fallen heros, I can think of no more honorable way to die than in defending the safety and freedom of those we have chosen to serve. All who wear a badge readily accepted the possibility of death in the line of duty. Our families and friends did not necessarly agree to bear the burden of our loss, yet they do. With that in mind, Molly, God rest your soul...you have made the Ultimate Sacrafice in the service of the citizens of Columbia. May you rest proud and peacefully.

To Molly's family, friends, and co-workers, honor and remember your fallen hero. The thoughts and prayers of many are with you.

Unfortunately it's been a long time since I've seen Jay in person, but I did get to talk with him on the phone a few times not too long ago. He and I were buddies in high school and were Explorers together at the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. We've been friends for nearly 20 years.

The last time I talked to Jay, we made plans to get together and "catch up" on the past few years. Sadly that never happened. The last words he said to me were "Well, buddy, got to go. Got to put some bad guys in jail." Typical Sampietro. :)

Thanks Jay, for bringing me on board. There will be a lot of people there to remember you...a lot of people.

Peace.

My thoughts are with you during this tragic event. I was struck by a motor vehicle 4 years ago and eventhough I am here to tell the tale, I don't ever forget those that came before me or even after me that lost their lives doing the same exact thing I was doing. My deepest sympathy go out to the family and especially the children. May GOD Bless you and keep your all safe.
