Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God."

Though I did not know Officer Webster, my prayers are with his family. I lost my husband in 2001. Remember the time God has blessed you to have him in your lives and stay strong for the children. I am not sure of their ages, but they will draw from your strengths as you will from theirs.

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Timothy did. As I celebrated my birthday and my life on August 13th it saddened me to know that yet another officer's life had ended tragically. Let's hope that Officer Webster is the last to die in the line of duty.
Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Webster's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through these tough times, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (Dennis' department will also always know how to reach me.)
As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Timothy but, I am certain he was well respected and well loved. Timothy will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were all lucky to have had him be a part of your lives, even for a short time. I pray that Timothy will continue to watch over us all as only he can.
Thank you Officer Webster for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.
Wishing you and all those who loved you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

I never had the opportunity to meet Officer Webster. Yet, throughout his short career I am sure that he made a positive impact on those he came in contact with on a daily basis. As many officers know, there is no such thing as a routine traffic stop. One never realizes who they are dealing with until it turns violent.
Officer Webster was taken from us too soon. Only God knows why. I am at a loss...
To the family and co workers who worked and lived daily with Officer Webster... rest assured that he is watching the streets of Heaven watching down on us as we remember his sacrifice.
Rest well my brother.. we'll take the watch from here.
