Reflections for Police Officer Roy Lundell Nelson, Jr.
Happy 40th Birthday! It's hard to believe it's been this long; thanks for taking care of us and keeping us strong. Things have changed alot, but one thing that never will and that's the giant void only you could fill. If there is one thing I know for sure; with love all can endure. Happy Birthday, babe. Missed, loved and remembered always.

Officer Nelson, I never had the chance to meet you, but I do remember that day in August 2005, that GOD called you and your partner Ceaser home. I had been hired over here in Seminole County in May of 2005 and it was a very sad day for ALL. When anyone who puts on the uniform and goes out day or night to serve and protect; not knowing if your shift will end with you going home or being called home! Dispatchers do get very close to their officer's like mom's and dad's. Your fellow officer's become like your brother's or sister's. Even other Agencies feel the pain, the thin blue line can be chipped and stretched but never broken! Ceaser's and your sacrifice shall NEVER be forgotten!! GOD BLESS you BOTH and I am sure you both are 10-8 in Heaven.

I have for a very long time wanted to talk but could never bring myself to do so until now. Not sure why this day or now but I'm glad that I am. I remember when you got hired, and when you became K-9 officer, and thinking are we in trouble dispatch you always kept us busy and on our toes. You've always been a go getter and great one at that. I miss you Roy. I also miss the howling that Ceacer would do every time you would do a traffic stop. You are always in my heart and missed very much. I know your watching over everyone so keep up the good work. Your Friend.:-)

You know Roy, I think Pooch said it best. I thought about you this morning and until I got a message from Kirk, it did not hit me as hard until now. Wow, three years. And like he said, it seems like yesterday. You are still missed just as much today as the day you and Ceaser left us, the day you moved to the good Lord's community. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless Brother. Continue to guard the streets of heaven as you did the streets of NSB.

Hi Roy and Caesar. Chatty Cathy back here remembering this terrible day three years ago when you left this earth to become angels. It is very cloudy and windy today and I believe that it really reflects the feeling of all of us who lost you that day. Henry is up there playing with Caesar and I am sure they are fighting over who is going to get the tennis ball first. I miss our talks and sometimes when I am out walking the dogs I can feel your presence as you were such a strong influence on me after the passing of my mother. Until we meet again my dearest friend in heaven, take care of everyone as you will always be in my prayers and thoughts. I love you Roy Nelson as so many other people in the world we live in as it was a little safer while you were here. My deares friend, I cannot bear August the 13th as it has become a day of rememberance and lonliness. We all miss and love our shinging stars!!!!!

Well it's coming up on 3 years now and for me, it continues to hauntingly feel like yesterday. As I sit here and write this, I contribute those feelings are being motioned by the way I think of you each and everyday. I am sure that I am not the only person having these feelings. It is because of the person and spirit that you are, that you continue to touch, guide and inspire each and everyone of us as we continue on with our daily lives. In response to that I keep telling myself that the feelings and thoughts are positive and nourishing as I/we will never forget you but, on the negative side it is also a constant reminder of our loss.
As the 3 year mark arrives I guess the moral of this reflection is that you are not and will never be forgotten!!!
Roy, you are sorely missed and loved, and you will continue to live on though your family and friends. Rest in peace.

Went to New Smyrna Beach yesturday and passed by the accident sight where you ended your watch and I still get chills and teary eyed as I drive across the causeway. Usually I try to avoid it at all cost, but, unfortunately that was not the case. You are always in my thoughts and prayers each and everyday of my life along with my tennis ball player Caesar. God speed to my beloved officer!!! I miss you and I see your star everynight when I take my dogs out.....Makes me feel a little at peace knowing that you are here watching over me. Till we meet again....

Officer Roy Nelson & K-9 Officer Ceasar. I drove by your place of destination where God took you away from us. I saluted when I drove by because you were a great officer and still are. You are just above us in a different place, till we meet again. I think about you all the time, and honored to have worked with you. I know you are still with us in spirit and protecting your fellow brothers. We love you and will always be our hearts forever. You will never be forgotten ...... ever.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

While at the blood drive at Station 55 today a female with a dog in her car commented on my sticker for Roy Nelson and Caesar. As we talked she told me that her dog was suppose to be a boy dog and would be named Nelson, the only dog they fell in love at the pound was this very cute female so Angie, K-9 Officer Roy Nelson's wife named her Nellie. This was so touching to me that I thought it should be put on the web page as another tribute to one of our fallen heroes. I can't seem to figure out how to send you a picture of Nellie but she is so cute. Your wife Angie named her and I just wanted to share this with you

It's been two years now brother since you left us. I still remember that night all to well. I remember sitting with ceasar trying to help him along side the causeway. I remember trying not to cry while escorting you home. Rest in peace brother, we will all know the peace you now do some day.
