From one Law Enforcement Brother to Another, May You Rest In Peace. Myself and my family had the pleasure of vacationing in your beautiful city. My Sister and her daughter live in the city that you and your partner protected and made safe. Approximately a month ago, I provided back up to a lone Officer on a domestic call at a 7-Eleven store. A few of the subjects involved where pretty irrate, and i was not going to let him stand alone. I waited till his back up arrived, before i left the scene. You can not help but to be affraid when you are on your own. That night i was glad that i had his back. I may have been a Cop from Louisiana, but we are all on the same team.
To Officer Nelson, and his K-9 Partner Caesar. May You both rest in peace, and know that we continue your watch.

Roy,
It was just 2 weeks ago I was talking to you, talking about my August 09th graduation from the New York State Police Academy, and it was just 3 years ago that we, as Bravo Shift were patrolling the streets together, the best of the best. I am thankful for that oppportunity to have served with a man whose devotion to Law Enforcement and his family was unlike no other. You have made the ultimate sacrifice and you are a hero for that. You made a difference in this world, you touched so many people in the community and the people who worked with you. Rest in peace MY BROTHER, you will not be forgotten!!!!!!

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Roy did. As I celebrated my birthday and my life on August 13th it saddened me to know that yet another officer's life had ended tragically. Let's hope that Officer Nelson is the last to die in the line of duty.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Nelson's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through these tough times, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (Dennis' department will also always know how to reach me.)

As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Roy but, I am certain he was well respected and well loved. Roy will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were all lucky to have had him be a part of your lives, even for a short time. I pray that Roy will continue to watch over us all as only he can.

Thank you Officer Nelson for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you and all those who loved you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
