Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Roy Lundell Nelson, Jr.

Here I am sitting at my computer screen checking out cop stuff when I stumble upon this...I'm left in shock. It seems like just yesterday I was visiting my family in Florida. This was before graduating college, before becoming a Trooper up here. It was in 2000 I think, I was 20 at the time and it was the first time I had ever been on a ride-along. I rode on your shift, and I recall ever so clearly one particular joke you made. I've used it myself a few times. You spoke to me like a person, made me feel comfortable and made me laugh. You spoke with everyone I observed you encounter on calls with the utmost professionalism. What an all around guy. I am probably the only guy who remembers that night.

To your family--Be assured he is watching over you, and be assured that even way up here in New England, at the very least one Statie will always remember him. God Bless.

This is for you Brother. It's been two months today. Your Beautiful wife is celebrating yours and Ceasar's life today with all your closest friends and family. I would of loved to be there, but I'm remembering you while I help out with Hurricane Katrina Victims in Long Beach Mississippi. Let me tell you though...you were there with me. God Bless you Roy!

It has been over 2 months now since you left us here on earth and I know your presence is stronger than ever. The return of your necklace to your wife this past week is a sign of you being all of our guardian angel. You and your partner Caesar will always be with us in RCC as we are putting up a large picture of the two of you to help us keep all your brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement safe each and every shift we work.
You would have enjoyed the Poker Run as it was a great tribute to a great Law Enforcement Officer. I am sure you were smiling down on all of us as we remembered our friend, you, Roy Nelson. You will never be out of my prayers and my heart forever. Loving you as a friend and an officer was made easy by your kind and gentle demeanor. Miss you and will see you again in heaven. God Bless the two of you and may we all remember what you stood for here on earth. Honesty, Integrity and the pursuit of the bad guys.....A special hi to Caesar from Henry the Pug.....See you again my friend, Cathy

"K200" I keep visiting this website and still cannot believe you have been taken away from us. I have to regularly drive by almost everyday where you reached your final destination and feel sadness of that night, but still feel the presence of you and your dedicated K-9 partner Caesar still patrolling and protecting the city and your brothers out there. We framed a large photograph of you and Caesar, and just ordered a brass plate to put on the photoraph so we can place it in our communication center wall, high where we can see you every day we work. You worked hard to fight crime and keep the streets safe, and your fellow officers are there right behind you doing the same. Everytime we sent them on an emergency call, I pray for their safety and know you are there also to protect and guide them from above. We miss you and have you in our hearts forever.

Roy,

As I reflect back, I realize that we may not have seen eye to eye on a lot of things but I did learn from you in many ways and when times were tough, you always lent a helping hand. You were the bravest one out of all of us. Rest in Peace brother.

While it is no consolation for your loss, our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Oficer Nelson.

While no member of our agency had the privilege to have known him personally, we are certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.

Rest in peace officer; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

Roy, I been here so many times trying to think of what to write. No matter what I write, it all falls short. Rest in peace brother.

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you’ll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you’ll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I’ve watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There’s so many different worlds
So many differents suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun’s gone to hell
And the moon’s riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it’s written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We’re fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

Dearest Roy,
From the beginning you were a joy to be around. If nothing else, we could smile at your BIG baby feet! We miss you so much, but know that you are still with us. Your mom is doing pretty well. Give Ceasar a big hug from us. We will always love you.

God speed to you Roy, and your beloved partner Ceasar. It is obvious to me that God was short on a K-9 team.

To the family: please know that both Roy and Ceasar died doing what they loved to do.

To The Wife and Children of A Hero,

My husband was Lake County Deputy Wayne Koester and was taken away from us Feb. 9, 2005. I had a very hard time coming to this web site in the beginning. So many friends, family and some complete strangers taking the time to give such honor to my husband and family. As time passed, I now come to this site almost everyday. Sometimes I cry, ok, most times I cry. Other times I laugh at a cherished memory. One day, maybe in a few months, you will find it easier to come here and perhaps leave a message of your own for your husband or for another family who, tragically, will go through this as we have. We now share an uncommon bond. We are both the Wives of TRUE HEROES. I dont have to tell you to remember him or cherish every memory of him, that's a given. But, take some comfort knowing that he will be by your side every minute of every day until you see him again. I know Wayne is always here by my side. One day, when you least expect it, something will happen and through no other explanation, you will know he's there, watching over you and sending you his love. Please dont hesitate to call me any time day or night. Lake County S.O. can get a hold of me if or when you decide to call. I'm just in the next county, maybe we can meet one day over coffee. I'm sure we'll see each other at the memorial next year. For now, know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Roy and Ceasar- You have now joined my husband and are now the new Heroes up in the sky. Watch over you family and know that everyone will do whatever they can to help your family down here.
