To the family and friends of Officer Ortega and his law enforcement family in Pine Lake: I wanted to extend my sincerest condolences on the loss of Officer Ortega. His brutal murder was such a senseless act that will devastate all those who knew him. I know this family's agony as I too am on the difficult journey as a police survivor. My son Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Dept. was fatally shot this past April. Your loss is immeasurable. Please know that our entire family grieves with you and that you will be in our thoughts and prayers. It is tragic that another young child has lost their father through such a stupid brutal act. If someone is hell bent on suicide, they should just take their own life and not the life of someone else. Offficer Ortega's valor and bravery will be remembered forever. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Ortega gave to the community of Pine Lake, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made in the line of duty.

May he rest in peace.

Today we mourn another Georgia Hero killed in the line of duty. I had the pleasure to meet and talk to Officer Ortega on several occasions while patrolling in overlapping jurisdictions. Officer Ortega was very proud and dedicated to the law enforcement profession. On behalf of the men and women who serve with the Georgia Perimeter College Police Department, our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Francis Ortega’s family, friends, and co-workers with the City of Pine Lake Police Department. Rest in peace our young brother in blue. As you walk the wonderful beat in Heaven please look down and protect us that continue to walk the beat here.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Officer Ortega. I feel awful for his family, co-workers, and especially his son. I lost my brother, Keith in the line of duty in May of this year. At the time, my oldest son was 6 and was very close to his uncle. He was like a second dad to my son and when he died, my son was devastated. We found strenght in Jesus Christ and He'll give you the same strenght. I greave for you all and will keep you in my prayers. My God bless you all.
