Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Francis Manuel Ortega

Another anniversary passes and we still think of you daily, brother. The only joy is knowing you are at peace and resting well. You are always on my mind and today you are also at the forefront of my prayers. Nineteen years, I miss you brother.

Hi Francis this is your nephew talking. I always hear stories about you and it sounds like you were a good person. Mom and grandma always say I look similar to you and I remind them of you. I hope I can see you in a dream or one day in heaven. We all love you Francis.

Not a year goes by that we forget what you did or rather what you meant to this community. Your dedication and your kindness will always be remembered. I watch your children grown and it gives me joy. Especially Frankie who towers over me. Last we spoke, he wants to be a cop, "Dios mío". Well, we will continue to watch from a distance and never forget. Rest well brother.............we will take the watch. Peace

Fifteen long years, brother. I still think about you every day, and talked about you and your story to dozens of agency leaders in “Chief School” today. Your memory does not fade from me, and I know you are resting well.

I was on duty at the Clarkston Police Department when the officer down call went out. I was about the fourth or fifth unit to pull up on the scene and we covered down for the Pine Lake Officers to put Ortega in the back of a patrol car and get him out of harms way. He was already deceased but they tried to get him help. DKPD SWAT got to the Post Office, but the suspect shot himself later as I recall. I was very sorry about Officer Ortega. May he R.I.P.

A decade. You are still not forgotten. You will not be forgotten. We spoke of you in church on Sunday. If you can believe it, I am still with the City and I still cannot help but to stare at the post office every time I pass by. Miss you brother and I will see you again some day!

I bought a home in Pine Lake in early 2010. It breaks my heart to finally see the face that went with the name. A very young man just starting out in life. I remember your name always when on Rockbridge in or out of Pine Lake. I pray for those you left behind holding on to memories until the day you are all reunited. NOT FORGOTTEN.
