I am sorry that I did not know Wayne. By the words of his friends and co-workers, he was truly a good man and a good friend. As law enforcement officers we are family and when one of us is taken we all feel the loss. Wayne, thank you for your service and sacrifice. You will be remembered for your service and sacrifice and especially for the man you were. Thank you for representing yourself and us in such a positive and influential way. You will be remembered. May God reward you and bless your family. Your brother and friend.

To the family and friends and fellow correctional officers and staff of the TDC: I wanted to extend my sincerest condolences on the loss of Officer Morgan. His ambush was such a cowardly act and I hope the perpetrators are captured and punished to the fullest extent. Having worked many years ago for the California Dept of Corrections, I know being a C.O. is a difficult job. I also know the personal agony you are feeling as I lost my youngest son, Officer Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg, CA Police Department, when he was shot twice this past April while on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. This unspeakable horror affects so many people. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of dedicated service Correctional Officer Wayne Morgan gave to the state of Tennessee, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made when he was so brutally murdered.

Words fail me...another tragedy, another grieving family, another dedicated professional's name etched on the Memorial...
The others have all said it better than I can. To the family, friends, and co-workers, know that you are in the hearts and minds of so many of us, across the country and around the world.

Morgan Family,
As a longtime friend of Dennis, I was severly saddened by your loss. May your pain reside as the Lord carries you in one of the hardest times in your life. Let us not mourn in the passing of your husband/father/grandfather, but let us rejoice in the beauty of Wayne walking with Christ, shining his light upon us.
The Lord will never give us anymore that we can not handle. May God carry you and your family tighly, and your heart with gladness that he will never have to live in fear again.
God bless you all and my deepest and most heartfelt prayers are with you.

Again we share the loss of a dedicated family member needlessly. Officer Morgan came from a family dedicated to law enforcement and his community. We can only stand behind/and with his department, his personal family, and his friends in helping all thru this ad and senseless tradgedy. God bless each of them and help them to understand. WE WILL NEVER LET THEM WALK ALONE---GOD BLESS

This is truly a sad day for those who work in corrections. I experienced this same sadness when my fellow Federal Bureau of Prisons friend and co-worker was ambushed in an escape attempt in 1987 (Robert Miller, EOW: October 12, 1987) while escorting a prisoner outside the secure confines of the penitentiary. The brethren that make up the law enforcement community understand the risks, but return to the "job" knowing these risks. These are the true heroes in our community. The only comfort for us comes in knowing the perpetrators of this horrible crime will be caught and punished. However, the pain for his family and co-workers will last a lifetime. I pray for God's grace on our brother and his healing hand on his family.

To the Morgan family: Our hearts and our prayers sincerely go out to you and your family. There are no words to mend your broken hearts right now but the support of your friends, neighbors and family and the help of God you'll make it through this terrible tragedy. May God be with you...

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
Cotton, you really are precious to us and are one of the Lords saints. You left your mark on everyone that you ever came in contact with. You were not only our brother at work but our brother in Christ and we will see you again. We are looking forward to this happy meeting.
(promise from Bruce) I will hold dear to my heart the conversation you and I had on Monday and I will act upon on it and hopefully I can finish what you got started. I just hope one day I will be as good a witness to all as you have been to me....

The Job I Do
You can't understand the job I do.
So what's different, you ask, of me than you?
You see the beauty of life each day,
and take for granted the part I play.
You can go home and leave your troubles behind,
but I am who I am, no matter the time.
To carry a gun and not to abuse it,
and praying to God I won't have to use it.
Everyday to be willing to risk my life,
wondering if, again, I'll see my children and my wife.
In Blue or Green I'm still easy to see,
so there's really never a safe place to be.
When you see danger, you can run and hide,
but I have ethics that I must abide.
To go to work knowing this could be the day,
when some crazed lunatic might blow me away.
To care for the injured, to deal with the dead,
is always the part I truly dread.
So what's different you ask of you than me?
I am willing to give my life for you...Will you for me?
