You have served your country well. First in the military and then as a LEO. Nothing I can say can comfort your family at this sad time. You are truly a hero and now you will walk with God. Keep watch over all other LEO's from your place in heaven. May God bless you and your family.

I am saddened by our brotherhood’s loss. Everyone must remember that Officer Morgan exhibited professionalism, honesty, thoughtfulness and most importantly Godliness. All of which are wonderful traits any person or officer should have and teach to their families. Sir, I thank you for your work and dedication to our state.

May God bless you and your family.

Words cannot express the helplessness I felt Tuesday morning as I was informed of the situation at The Roane County Courthouse. I sat in disbelieve wishing there was something I could do.

I had the honor of knowing Cotton Morgan my entire nineteen year career; I was the Transportation Department supervisor when Cotton began these duties. I sat in the Transportation office many days eating lunch listing to Cotton tell humorous stories from when he was in Vietnam to Deer Hunting. Cotton had an art of telling stories so vivid that you the listener felt you were there with him and he would always leave you chuckling.

Cotton will be greatly missed by me and all Staff at Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex.
Rest in Peace

Please keep Cotton’s Partner in your prayers and thoughts.

May you rest in peace brother. The brotherhood of the badge knows no boundaries. May the cowards who committed this act find swift and severe punishment.
May God be with your family because we know he is with you now.

You may rest now. We will not rest until justice has been served.

On August 8th, 2000 our lives were changed forever, when our loved one, Officer Bob Stanze was taken from us. He had an 18 mos old son and had just learned that his wife was pregnant with twins. We come to this site often to find solace and sometimes just to feel closer to others who are experiencing the overwhelming loss we have felt. I want to express my condolences for your tragic, unexplainable loss. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Keep his wonderful memory alive in all you say and do. God bless you all!

Going in and out of the court room, dealing with convicted felons daily, one never knows the risks involved at any given moment with any given task or job assignment. This tragedy at the Roane County Courthouse where the precious life of Correctional Officer Wayne (Cotton) Morgan was taken, brings those risks to the forefront of my mind. We just never know who or what we are dealing with in this line work. My heart hurts for the family of Officer Morgan, as well as the loss to his fellow officers, neighbors and community. Please accept my good thoughts and prayers in this time of sorrow, as well as my hopes that those who committed such horrible acts will be brought to justice. A quote from Astronaut Commander Rick Husband, that sits by my desk as I supervise criminal offenders reads, "We never know what the next day will hold for us, grasp life with all your might, hold tight to the ones you love, and live life as though there were no tomorrow". Officer Morgan has no more tomorrows on this earth, and I pray that his Eternal tomorrows are all celebrated with the Heavenly Father and Son and all those gone on before.
