Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
Cotton you were very precious to everybody you came in contact with and you are certainly one of the Lords saints.
You were not only our brother at work or our union brother but you were our brother in Christ which means we will meet again. We look forward to this happy meeting day.
(promise from Bruce) I will continue on with the work you were doing as we talked about Monday.
Praise the Lord they just this minute caught the criminals that murdered you..

Correctional Officer Wayne Morgan,
Although I never had the opportunity to know you, I know that you placed your family, your community, and your country above all else. You served your country in a way that deserves thanks and respect. You placed the people of the state of Tennessee and their safety above your own, so that our civil society may be protected. You made the ultimate sacrifice serving the people, and your heroism will never be forgotten. My heartfelt condolences to your family and colleagues, for their loss is the greatest of all. If I had known you, I am sure I could have learned a great deal about courage and selflessness in service of a grateful nation. As a future Law Enforcement Officer and an American citizen, I thank you for your service. Your family and friends are in my prayers now and always.
Godspeed, Cotton.

I was privileged to know Cotton and his family. He lived his Faith. I
KNOW that if he could talk to us, he
would tell us to pray for the fugitives and their families. He is at Home and wouldn't return here if he could. I'll see you again one day Cotton, you will be missed.

My heart goes out to the family, friends and co-workers of OFFICER MORGAN. May God in all his mercy and love, wrap his arms around you and comfort you in this time of saddness. May he help all officers state wide find the unmerciful criminals that did this awful crime. How would they like it if someone was to walk up and do the same thing to one of their loved ones?
I kmow that this may not be of any comfort to you, but we have been in your same place and we know it is very painful. We lost our only child Officer
Shane Miller last year. He only worked 6 hours as a police office (killed in a high speed pursuit first night on the job).
Please remember you will be in our prayers everyday. God will take care of your loved one. Just think about one day meeting him again in that beautiful place, running up to him and putting your arms around him and hear that voice "WELCOME HOME". OH what a glorious day that will be.
Take care of yourself and MAY GOD BE WITH YOU.

Through the grief and sorrow, these words seem to echo the wonderful life of Wayne (Cotton) Morgan in a final prayer.
Lord I ask for courage
Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me
Where others will not go...
I ask for strength
Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...
I ask for dedication
Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...
Give me Lord, concern
For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...
And please Lord
Through it all
Be at my side...

Officer Morgan,
I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Tennessee as well as your service in Vietnam. You worked the toughest job in Law Enforcement-that of being a Corrections Officer.

Cotton,
I have talked to you many times and never ever left without a smile on my face, today brother you leave me in tears. I will always remember the things you said but most of all I will remember the kindness you shared with all of those around you. You were the last one to take your dinner break and the first to let another get what little extra there was. You showed compassion when it would have seemed none was due and yet you always tried to find the right way to do it. I admired your demeanor and your respect for others. I see the worst of the worst in what we do and yet when I came in contact with you I saw greatness. It was a greatness not of this world but that was a God given gift that few will ever come to understand. Cotton go and rest my brother and know that you and your legacy will truly live forever. A legacy comes not from things but from things done to create a memory and sir your memories will live forever.
To My fellow officer, catch those that did this but remember the compassion Cotton had, be fair, and yes be hard but trust in his memory and do the right things and Cotton will smile on us all and tell us the jokes that he always saved for those really hard times and we will know he is still with us. God Bless you my brother and to your family, know he will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that the cowards that caused you this pain are caught and brought to justice.
Officer Morgan's dedication and commitment to serving his country in Vietnam and his 28 years of service to the Department of Corrections is an incredible career and it makes me sick that his life was ended in such tragedy.

When a life is taken needlessly, it is a horrible thing. When the life of a Law Enforcement Officer is taken, it is an even harder pill to swallow, for ironically, we are the bravest of men and women who choose to serve and protect. This is a job that you have done for both your community and your country and for that I am proud to have served behind the badge with you. To the Morgan family, I cannot begin to imagine your pain and loss. Know that Wayne is in a better place and is now able to watch his family 24/7. Please allow your law enforcement community to embrace you, for we to suffer with such a loss. It is with our huge hearts, that we will do all we can to continue the job begun by Wayne and to help your family in any way. May God bless the Morgan family, the members of the TDOC and Wayne. Rest in peace our brother for we will continue where you left off.
