Again we mourn as another hero is taken from us. My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Beyerstedt. May the Lord give you strength and bless each of you during this time.
Rest in peace for your watch here is over; walk in heavens beat and guide us to protect and serve others safely.

One of the best times that I had with Scot was when he, Linda, and I went coon bashing. It is a little known sport that I think Scot just made up. We drove around looking for coons with a flashlight and apparently when you found one you blinded it with the light and, I quote, "kick it til it dies!" I am still glad that we never actually saw a coon that night. Scot and I were only good friends for one summer, in 2003, but I will always remember how much fun we had and how much respect I had for the leaps of faith he made. No matter how much I miss him and wish the pain would go away, I don't wish him back here. He is in a place where there is no more suffering, and I know he would rather be in heavan anyway, praising God. Riding in the car, sitting at the beach, singing to the radio, saving the lawn mower, teaching my sister how to eat corn on the cob, getting lost on the way home, sharing each others secrets, I cherished Scot's company, even for the short time I was what I considered a friend.

My condolences in your loss to the law enforcement families at KVCC, Mattawan PD, and Cassopolis PD. I never had the opportunity to meet Scot but have heard so much about him in the past week. Having gone through the loss of a Vern Brann, fellow officer in neighboring Battle Creek in May of this year, I feel your pain. The man who caused Scot's death will be caught and brought to justice.
To Scot's family if you ever need anything just ask as you are our family as well.
Rest in Peace Scot

Scot had a smile that radiated the love he had for people. He was a kind and gentle young man with the leadership skills that would normally be displayed by a 20 year veteran of law enforcement.
When he graduated from the academy my words to him were that he would become chief someday and not to forget us.
I had no idea that he had a bigger calling...
He was a true follower of Jesus and has left us with a great example of how we should live our lives. Putting our faith before all.
I will remember you for this, Scot.
Thank you!!!

I am so saddened that there is yet another tragic death of such a young officer. Having lost my fiancee when he was only 20, I can unfortunately relate to the thoughts and emotions of all those who knew and loved Scot. I wish there were some words of wisdom or some advice to give you all that would at least ease the pain and make life more bearable especially for the next bit of time. That is just not the case. All I can do is tell you to pray and turn to the Lord to lift your burdens of sorry, confusion, and tremendous heartache. He will be your strength when you are at your weakest points. God bless you all and thank you for sharing Scot with the rest of the world.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers,

I once saw a police car at the age of three, and thought,
"That’s what I want to do, and that’s who I want to be."
"I want to have my red and blues flashing at you."
I want to be the one who pulls you over when you’re driving too fast,
I want to be the one to help when you run out of gas.
I want to be the one little kids look up to,
I want to be the one who knows just what to do.
I want to be the one who locks you up when you beat your wife,
I want to be the one who’ll lay down his life.
I want to be the one who’s mad at you,
Because you’ve been drinking and you thought,
"I’m fine, I’ll drive home too."
And I don’t want to be the one knocking on your door saying,
"Daddy didn’t wear a seatbelt, he won’t be coming home anymore."
Now when the time for me has come,
And you’re wondering where I’ve gone.
Don’t worry, I’m never far away,
I’ll be watching you each and every day.
Just look in your rearview mirror and you’ll see that’s where I’ll be,
Always watching and waiting,
Always with my red and blues watching over you...
Godspeed Officer Beyerstedt, you were so young, but I'm sure you were doing what you loved.
