To the family and friends of Lt. James Weaver and his fellow officers in the Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office:

On behalf of our entire family, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Lt. Weaver was so brutally murdered. Lt. Weaver's valor and dedication to his job will be forever remembered. I hope that you will see the full measure of justice rendered for the horrific crime that took his life. It won't bring him back, but he deserves no less than the full measure of justice our legal system provides.

May you find comfort in the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family shares your anquish as our beloved Larry Lasater was killed this past April when shot during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. The bullets that kill our loved ones don't just take away their life, they take away a part of us. Everyone who loves our fallen officers are forever changed.

To Lt. Weaver's granddaughter, I feel the pain you are experiencing, but I can also tell what a wonderful relationship you had with your grandfather by the reflection you left for him. That is a wonderful tribute to him. I am sure he will always be with you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many (sixteen ) years of service Lt. Weaver gave to his community and the citizens of Virginia, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 27, 2005.

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Bo did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Bo be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Lieutenant Weaver's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through these tough times, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (Dennis' department will also always know how to reach me.)

As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Bo but, I am certain Bo was well respected and well loved. Bo will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were lucky to have had him be a part of your lives, even for a short time. I pray that Bo will continue to watch over us all as only he can.

Thank you Lieutenant Weaver for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

My heart breaks every time I see another one of our own is gone but I feel I must check the Officer Down Memorial Page very often in memory of all my fallen comrades. Having been an officer for over 10 years, I can relate to working the street. The grief is so deep. Though now a Telecommunicator, I wanted to share my poem dedicated to each of them& their families:

Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.

Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.

Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.

Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.

We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.

The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
As we recall in comfort
You await us there.

I'm heartbroken to hear of your death. I know all too well the pain your family is feeling. I pray the Lord will carry them through the rest of their lives here without you. I'm thankful that this "juvenile" was charged as an adult for surely he knew what he was doing when he left the back seat. The Lord will see that he gets what he deserves...if not here on earth, then at the end of his time.
