Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jerry Ortiz

You have been on my mind more than ever, and all I can do is reflect on all the memories we all have shared with you. As I go out with Mando and his buddies I just think of how it is not fair that you are not here with me. The times we did go out together we always had a blast. I will always be proud and honored to call you my brother. You have left a great impact on many lives. Your smile keeps brightening every ones day. I miss you so much and love you. Deputy J. Ortiz,
Rest in peace brother and know that you are not forgotten. You gave the ultimate sacrifice and now you can rest eternally with our Father. God bless you and your family.

Jerry I miss you. There are some days I look around and can't believe that you are really gone. Please continue to watch over us.

March 27, 2008

Deputy Ortiz,

I have spent many hours looking at your locker, enclosed in class inside our briefing room, and the various items on display, and though I didn't know you I feel a lot of pain as a result of your murder. I look around each shift at the faces of everyone in briefing and hope and pray that we will go 10-7 together at EOW; however, sad as it is, that isn't always the case. It takes a special person to work in this profession. Some accomplish much more in shorter periods of time than others. You did great things while you were here and we love you and appreciate you for that. You are missed.

Rest easy, because we'll carry on for you down here. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

God Bless You, Sir!

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.

Jeremy's resemblance to you is extraordinary. He is developing some of your mannerisms and has similar features. Each time I see him I see more of you. He is growing into a fine, young man. I love you.

As I get older and get a chance to reflect on who I have become, it is time to thank those who you will always hold in high regard for what they stood for. I was always proud to be from El Monte. It seems to have a strong family feel for all of us who were lucky enough to grow up there. Jerry epitomized this and makes me proud of who I am and what I've become. Thanks for doing all us proud, we will never forget...

Though I did not know you I remember when you were killed and my heart sank. Seeing you face on the news for days I thought how could this happen, to a young man, a deputy with so much life yet to be lived. I have often checked your reflections and read how much you are missed by your family...to the Ortiz family, I pray for you often..I pray for Jerry and that someday, somehow your pain will be eased and you will all be together once again. God Bless and Jerry ...we will never forget.
