In honor of Jerry Ortiz I would like to personally express my condolences to his wife and family. I just made it to 15 years 2011, like Jerry die, but he paid the "Ultimate Sacrifice", he laid it down to protect the community. Jerry made an impact on my life but most importantly my work ethic. Many lessons were learned from this tragedy and I too worked South Bureau Gangs and know the dangers. In remembrance of this great "Man", I pass on my knowledge to those I work with. Go code-six, have a tactical plan either oral or written, talk about it first before it happens, role play sceneros, look where you stand, and yes supervisors must ensure in partners work together on a follow up and never, never, again go alone. I am sick to my stomach when I think how this tragedy could have been avoided, but that is my opinion. God Bless you Jerry.

Jerry not a day goes by that i don't think of you as i pass by the frwy sign in your Honnor on the way to & from work.
Well here comes another USC Football Season that i will be going to without being able to invite you to join me at a game. I know that some how you are there with me in Spirit. THANKS for all you continue to do for us all. GOD BLESS & as always "FIGHT ON"! ! !

Jerry,

It's been 6 long years since you were taken from us.
It's seems like yesterday that you and the rest of us on the "Overlaps Crew" were roaming the streets at night doing what we were bred to do and having the time of our lives.
I miss you and I miss those times, I will never forget!
Thanks for being a part of my life, teaching me a thing or two, throwing punches with me and sweating it out in the ring, and making me laugh, even in the face of danger at times.
I know God has a plan and a design that I will never understand. I know you're in a better place.
Walk among us brother, we still need you!

Jerry, I road in the 2011 Police Untiy Tour in your honor. We rode a total of 250 miles over four days. We started in Somerset, New Jersey, and ended at the Police Memorial in Washington D.C. To honor the fallen police and fire who gave there all on 9/11, we rode to Ground Zero. The entire ride was amazing. The entire experience was amazing, and I plan to ride every year to honor all law enforcement personnel who have paid the ultimate price. The Police Unity Tour has a motto that reads; "WE RIDE FOR THOSE WHO DIED." It was an honor to ride in your name. I know your were watching over me throughout the entire ride. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Deputy Ortiz is not forgotten.
