As one of 3 incredibly professional and determined Drill Instructors of plt 2000 at Parris Island. Then Sgt Gariepy stood above the rest. He was feared and respected by all he trained and he taught us with a fiery temperament that hardened us for our future in the Corps. He wanted only the best in his Corps and was determined to get the best out of every man. He quickly became a platoon favorite for his incredible ability to inspire thru his own actions.Always leading from the front and a compliment from him was treasured and much sought after. Few people have impacted my life more and I'm truly saddened to hear of this great loss to our country. His presence and leadership was so inspiring to so many that he will live in our hearts and minds forever! My prayers go out to his family. I only wish I'd had the chance to speak to him again. What a lucky family you were to have him in your life for so long and what a tragedy to see him go so soon. God Bless.

Drill Instructor Sergeant Gariepy was one of my drill instructors on Parris Island in 1992. Platoon 2034, and especially me, were made better by his leadership!
I ran into him again in 1995 while in Okinawa. I had been promoted to Sergeant by that time, but never felt equal. I am sorry to hear (especially this late) about his passing.
He was a great leader and I am sure, is sorely missed.

Five years ago today the world lost a Marine, a Deputy and dedicated servent of the people. We all lost a wonderful, funny, kind, and loving man. Five years ago today, Heaven gained an angel - even though it broke our hearts. Greg, you are remembered today with respect and admiration, but you are thought of every single day with love. You are missed without measure. The years can't fade a single memory. Not five years. Not fifty years. You are still with us, in our hearts, and I know your watching over us from above. Rest easy and know that we will never forget you. One day I'll see you again and what a happy day that will be! Until then, I hope you know that your memory lives on in each of us that knew & loved you. Semper Fi and my God hold you in his arms until we are together again, my friend.

It's Memorial Day and you are sure being thought of today, just as you are everyday. Hope you know that your memory lives on and that you have so many that honor it - including myself. Just wish I could turn back time...I didn't think I would ever be older than you!! Seems like yesterday that we were young...and having the time of our lives and in my dreams..we still are!! Tomorrow is the 1st of June...and it's been almost 5 years...but it feels like much longer. I wonder if you ever knew just how much you would be missed? YOU are and YOU always will be.

I was this Marines Infantry Platoon Commander and later OIC of his Sniper Platoon. I relied on Greg for his superior tactical abilities and his keen skill in leading Marines. He was my top squad leader and a personal favorite. I fondly remember the times just talking as two men wanting the best for our Marines. Greg's counsel was always sought after by many officers within his unit. Well done Marine and Semper Fi!

Greg,
Wow! I am so proud of you! You did more in the short time you had than most people could do in 100 years! The number of lives you touched and all the people that remember you & love you is a testimony in-of-itself. You sure made an impact on everyone you met and even now as your memory is honored with a highway - your legacy lives on. Greg, you know that I was proud of you all along the way. The world was just so much better with you in it...and I'm sure heaven is a blast now, with you there!! I just wish heaven had cell phones - I miss your stories and your crazy sense of humor. I guess we all do. Thanks for the memories & keep watching over us, ok? You'll always be my Hero.

I went to the dedication today of the Memorial Hwy in your honor. Everyone only had great things to say about you and it was an awesome turnout. I know Mishelle & your children must be so proud of you.
Keep watching over your family, fellow Marines and fellow Deputies. You will never be forgotten.

Greg,
I can't believe it has been almost three years already since you left us. I still think of you everyday as if it were just yesterday that we talked or that I saw you. I just found out about the Memorial Highway in your honor. What an Honor that is. I wish I could be there to share that moment with everyone and to just feel close to you again. God Bless You Gunny, you are always in my heart and will be forever.
