I was so saddened to hear about the loss of Deputy Greg Gariepy and wish to extend my sympathy to his family, friends, fellow Marines, and the members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept. May your faith sustain you and may you be comforted by your loved ones. My son, Pittsburg Police Officer Larry Lasater, was murdered two months ago, thus I know your grief only too well. Larry had also served at Twenty Nine Palms as both a tank commander and commander of a scout platoon. I read with interest of Greg's service to his country as a Marine and to his community as a deputy sheriff. Greg's profound sense of duty to both will be remembered and honored. The law enforcement and Marine community will be there for the family, and there is no better support. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the sacrifices he and his family have made in service to man, community, and country. Semper Fi.

My heart goes out to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and the family of this great man. Having recently lost a deputy from my own department, I feel for your pain and grief. I am a San Bernardino County resident, so this hits home in 2 ways. I not only lost a "brother" but also an official in my own home county. Deputy Gariepy you have done your duty on earth and now it is your time to rest, and rest easy. Watch over your "brothers and sisters" in the field and your family at home. They will need all the strength they can get during this very difficult time. R.I.P.
To the family: Please be strong, for I'm sure Deputy Gariepy would want you to be. You will be in my thoughts for a long time to come.
With sincerest sympathy,
Melissa- Public Response Dispatcher

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Thank you for your service, thank you for putting your life on the line everyday, thank you for being so selfless. It takes a special kind of person to go toward gun fire, to put a bullet proof vest on everyday. I know I am married to a police officer. You are mourned as family, a nation has lost a brother. You are a hero Deputy Gariepy...

On behalf of the men and women of Industry Sheriff's Station, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, our heartfelt condolences to the men and women of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department on the tragic death of Deputy Gariepy. Having lost Deputy Michael Arruda last year (EOW 06-15-04) and now Deputy Jerry Ortiz (EOW 06-24-05), we know all too well the pain and reality of losing one of our own. Take comfort from knowing your extended law enforcement family is grieving with you.
