Reflections for Sergeant Steven Francis Gaughan
Sorry for the loss of your Fellow Officer and Loved One.

I fear not each day that I leave my family and go into the world of the unknown. I know these were your thoughts today as you drove into work. You positioned yourself in the line of a threat and you gave all that God gave you to give. You did this with out thought of your own safety. I wasn't there but I thank you for protecting your community and your fellow officers with the service you provided each and every day of your great life. To those you left behind all I can tell them is that,,,,today a nation cried. And each and every day that I live I will embrace the life of this Man. We fight a fight that most can't understand. It is not for the money, the fame, or the pat on the back. It is to try to make this world a little better for the next generation, to try to reach out and help each and everyone we touch. I am sure that this Man did all that and so much more. Steve you are a brother in arms and a brother in Christ and I will pray for your family every time I bow my head. And I will remember you every time I hit the mean streets. Save me a spot I will see when I get there. God Speed Russ

A PIECE OF AMERICA DIED
Somebody killed a policeman today
and a piece of america died
a piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him...at his side
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court
with counsel demanding his rights
while a young widowed mother must work for her kids
and spend many long, lonely nights
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half staff
to his name they will add a gold star
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today
It happened in your town or mine
While we slept in comfort, behind our locked doors
a cop laid his life on the line
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street
and he stands at each new rookie's side
He answers the call, and gave us his all
and a piece of america died

Steve,
You will always be in our memories. You were a great cop and a great friend. You always made people laugh, and I'll always remember you calling me "The Wedding Singer". I said numerous prayers for you today, and now I'll say numerous prayers for your wife and two children. I hope when your children grow up they will be told what a wonderful person and father you were. I know if I have a chance to tell them they will know.
God Bless and I'll See You in Heaven Brother!
