Reflections for Sergeant Steven Francis Gaughan
Steve, I hope u are at peace, I miss your laughter, busting John's chops, but now both of you are with each other. I hope your fellow police officers learn from you both to keep your sense of humor and humility. I think of both of you. I hope you are at Peace and are an angel watching over your fellow officers. Miss you.

Steve, I will miss your sense of humor and how you made me feel welcome to the department at Dist.VI when I was a rookie, at in service and CDU training at Jug Bay. I transported alot of your S.A.T team arrests and have not met a more devoted inspirational officer. You will always be missed!

I miss you and so does my family. When Ofc. Morris was killed all I could think about was the phone call I received at Safeway in Silver Spring from someone telling me that you had been shot and they didn't know if you would make it. I called my Mom crying and told her and a little while later you passed away. ;( I will never forget you and what you did for the family. I always think about you when I drive down 197. RIP. You were truly the best PG County Officer I have ever known and ever will know. Love always.

Although I never had the pleasure to meet you, I did meet your wonderful family and friends when we, the Police Emerald Society honored you as our Law Officer of the Year. My thoughts and prayers are with your family today and always.

Steve, My Brother, My Friend it's hard to believe its been 7 years. I can still remember the times we laughed at your antics. Like the time you came into the roll call room on a Rookies first day and did what you did... I can't even put it into writing because well you know... let's just say what you did was "Ballsy" LMAO!! I don't think anyone else would have gotten away with it. I never laughed so hard. Just know that you are missed and thought of often. Thanks for looking out for us from above. Tell Nova and Rich we Miss them too. Much Love to you all... Your Eternal Friend... Richie

Hey Steve, just thinking about you on the day you left us. Thinking about all the times you were up in trees and underneath parked cars monitoring the drug boys on Homer and Lewis. Thinking about your enthusiasum of law enforcement and locking up the knuckleheads! Yeah District VI misses you and I thank you for making me and all the guys around you better officers and keeping us on our toes. Thank you for your great humor and not taking life so seriously. See you on the other side my friend.

"You're Missing" Bruce Springsteen
Shirts in the closet, shoes in the hall
Mama's in the kitchen, baby and all
Everything is everything
Everything is everything
But you're missing
Coffee cups on the counter, jackets on the chair
Papers on the doorstep, you're not there
Everything is everything
Everything is everything
But you're missing
Pictures on the nightstand, TV's on in the den
Your house is waiting, your house is waiting
For you to walk in, for you to walk in
But you're missing, you're missing
You're missing when I shut out the lights
You're missing when I close my eyes
You're missing when I see the sun rise
You're missing
Children are asking if it's alright
Will you be in our arms tonight?
Morning is morning, the evening falls I have
Too much room in my bed, too many phone calls
How's everything, everything?
Everything, everything
You're missing, you're missing
God's drifting in heaven, devil's in the mailbox
I got dust on my shoes, nothing but teardrops
Some days, it feels like so long ago; while other days, it seems like yesterday. Not a day goes by....I carry you with me every day. I thank God for you everday. You were one of my best blessings.....thank you for teaching me to take chances.

Steve, You and I have never met but I have always heard great things about you. My brother in-law worked with you in PGPD, and some of my co-workers here in Calvert worked with you when they were with PGPD (Pete A. said you were a great guy). They were all right! I just got done teaching your daughter in DARE. She has your smile and judging by the stories I have heard of you she has your sense of humor. She was a great student and you would be very proud of her. As a new father myself I could only imagine the hard times my daughter would go through if something were to happen to me on the job. I would wonder who would be looking out of her while I'm gone. I can promise you I will keep an eye out for your daughter and will always be a positive roll model in her life. One day I'm sure our paths will cross but in the mean time I want you to know you have not been forgotten. Thank you for your service.

I was just browsing around on here today and leaving a note to the page for Trooper Radulescu of Washington State Police who was the victim of yet another senseless act of violence. I had to stop by and tell you I was thinking of you. Please take Trooper Radulescu under your wing. Rest In Peace and God Bless you Steve!! I miss hearing that accent of yours! ;)

Steve...I am doing the one year countdown to retirement...and you said that at my retirement party, you would tell my academy starsky and hutch story to anybody who would listen! As a matter of fact, just before we lost you, you told the entire In-Service training class the story!!! Well...you owe me a rain check on that story. And you better bet I am going to hold you to it! I miss your smile and that crazy walk that you had. And I miss your teases every time you saw me...always had something crazy to say. You were always cool and I miss you...thanks for being you--one of a kind

Steve,
I think about you all the time. I can still remember our last phone call and you saying me Julessss, what's up baby as you always did. Wow after Nova was killed you and I often talked about the crazy things we all did and the jokes we played. I miss you and also Nova so much. I know being a Christian I will see you again.
Love you,
Jules

Coming upon the anniversary of your passing. The sunshine and warmth also bring a sense of great sadness; not that you are missed any less the rest of the year but Spring/Summer is the season that you left us. I miss you more than words can ever express. A big chunk of me went with you that day. Rest easy.
