It doesn't matter where we work, when one of our brothers or sisters fall, we all feel the pain and the loss. Rest in peace Deputy Lynch. You will never be forgotten.

Roger,
Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. I am happy to hear that you returned justice to the man that did this to you and your family will not have to endure a trial. I wish them peace and happiness at the end of this long journey they have begun. Your family has a whole nation to support and love them but it can never replace the love they felt from you. Look Brandy up in heaven and cruise the great highway with him. Tell him we miss him more than anything here on earth.

I am a dispatcher for the Kentucky State Police, and the post where I am assigned covers Livingston County. The night of Deputy Lynch's murder, I was 10-8 in the radio room. This was definitely the toughest night of dispatching I have ever experienced. It quickly became a nightmare. Deputy Lynch is a hero. The narrative on his murder failed to mention that the one shot he was able to fire that killed the perpetrator saved a Trooper's life that night. A Trooper arrived only a few minutes after Deputy Lynch was killed, and we are thankful that his final shot was dead on or we might have had two dead officers that night. Roger, thank you for your service in the Commonwealth. Unit 3 will forever live in our hearts.

A Dispatcher’s Nightmare

As I sit at my console, so warm and dry
I can’t help but get a tear in my eye
I think of the Deputy that lost his life
One who made the Ultimate Sacrifice

It started out as a domestic dispute
One that would end in ill repute
We sent a trooper to assist that night
But when he arrived it was a terrible sight

The Deputy tried to lend his hand
To the wife and daughter of a very ill man
He saved their lives, but he gave his all
To help them out, he took the fall

The man opened fire that dreary night
The night that our team lost a fight
I will always remember the second of June
As a day that a hero died too soon

On my worst enemy, I would never wish
The trauma involved in a call like this
I prayed to the Lord that I would never say
“Officer Down, we need help on the way”

I ask “what if”, as I sit and ponder
Could I have changed the outcome, I often wonder
Is there any way I could have changed the past
I will never know, but I will always ask

I ask the Lord as I sit and cry
Why did this Deputy have to die?
To hear his last call, I cannot bear
That night has become my worst nightmare

Now that Deputy watches from above
To his wife and kids, he sends his love
In memory, Unit 3 will never cease
Deputy Lynch, go now, you may rest in peace

Deputy Lynch gave the ultimate sacrifice, but not before eliminating the threat. Deputy Lynch's heroic final act no doubt saved the lives of other family members present and very likely the lives of other law enforcement officers who would have encountered the suspect and his arsenal. Rest in Peace Deputy Lynch
