Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.
God Bless

Pete,
I will never forget your smile or your kindness. You taught us so much in DARE and always had time for us kids....we thought you were so amazing, and you were. I'll never forget when you responded to my house the night my dad had a seizure. You held my hand and told me that he'd be okay and in that moment I knew that he would be. You will always be a huge memory for me of the time I lived in Wadena. Thank you for your service.

Pete
Many days go by where I can deal and cope with life, then comes a day where I just wish you were here to give me some advice. Today just happens to be one of those days. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you, even after all these years. You were so much to me. Such a back bone to family, friends, and community. You are more than a brother to me Pete, your my best friend. I just wish I would of told you that.

I read in the Wadena paper that blue ribbons were put up at the PD and cemetery in remembrance of the 5th anniversary of Pete's death. It's hard to believe it's been so long...

I came to this page and saw his smiling face and instantly went back in time to hearing his infectious laugh - when Pete laughed, you just had to laugh with him! He had such down to earth way of looking at and dealing with life. What a good, funny, caring, honorable man he was.

Thank you for all the help and guidance you gave me as a child Pete. When I heard of your passing I was shocked. I hope you may be proud to know that the demonstration of handcuffs in DARE class is the closest I have ever been to trouble, and you were a big influence on that. God bless you and your family and rest in peace Sir.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

PETE,
WE ONLY WORKED TOGETHER FOR A SHORT TIME. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE YOU PASSED ON TO ME. YOU WERE ALWAYS THERE TO GUIDE ME, AND WAS MY FIRST PARNTER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT. I'LL NEVER FORGET THE BURGLAR THAT GOT AWAY BECAUSE WE HAD TO WAIT FOR THE TRAIN ON HWY 10. YOUR PASSING WAS VERY HARD TO TAKE. I MISS YOU BUDDY IT IS AN HONOR TO HAVE SERVED WITH YOU!

PETE'S FAMILY,
I HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOUR LOSS OF A GREAT OFFICER, PARTNER, FRIEND, FATHER, GRANDPA, ETC... I WILL NEVER FORGET HOW CARING AND GENTLE HE WAS WITH PEOPLE. HE MADE A LASTING IMPRESSION ON EVERYONE HE MADE CONTACT WITH AND WORKED WITH. AS I READ ALL THE COMMENTS AND REFLECTIONS THAT OTHERS HAVE LEFT, I BECOME CHOKED UP WITH EMOTION. HE IS A GREAT MAN AND MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD. I AM PROUD TO HAVE KNOWN HIM.

I will never forget back in elementary school, all of us kids playing on the playground early in the morning. Pete Resch was out directing traffic on highway 29, and as busy as he was he always found time to talk with the kids that came up to him to talk. And most days, he handed out baseball cards to us. I still have those cards, and will have them in my possession forever. We all miss you Pete.
