Yesterday I lost a very close friend. Keith and I met at the SC Department of Probation and Parole nearly three years ago when we were hired together. We attended the academy and worked together until we both left there and came to the Richland County Sheriff's Department at about the same time. Two weeks ago, he stopped by to visit my wife and I and to meet our new baby. I spoke to him on the phone the night prior to the crash. It is truly unbelievable that he is gone. Keith was the kind of guy with a contagious personality, you couldn't help but like him. He was always willing to go the extra mile and always had a positive attitude. I can say with absolute certainty that everyone who came into contact with him, liked him-even some of the people he arrested. He will surely be missed. Please keep Keith and his family in your prayers as they deal with their loss.

To Deputy Cannon's family & friends,
My heart breaks for you tonight as I read of Keith's death. I know the pain & sorrow you have and will continue to battle for the rest of your lives. Keith died on what would have been Calvin's 45th birthday (my first husband) had he not been killed in the line of duty in 2001-also on an interstate. I will never travel on I-20 again that I don't remember your loved one and the sacrifice he (and also you) made. May God wrap his loving arms around you and carry you through the days you can't make it alone. You'll be in my prayers here in N.C.

To the family and fiance of Deputy Byron,
I am truly dorry for your loss. I can say I understand what you are going through losing your fiance. You see I lost the love of my life 2 years, 5 months, 16 days ago. He was assisting a motorist change a tire with another officer when an unlicensed driver drove completely off the road stiking and killing both officers. Nov 19 is a day that stays with me forever.... However the memories we shared since the first day we met over 10 years ago is what holds me together. I am here in Goose Creek, SC thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. God Bless you and Byrons friends and family. THis is a difficult time... thankfully there are people who can help you thru...
My thoughts and prayers to you,

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"
