My wife and I attended the unveiling of the memorial plaque today. It is hard to believe that a year has already gone by. It was a true joy to meet again with Mr. and Mrs. Scott, who, through their grief, managed to give all of us strength on that terrible day last year and continue to do so.
These lines from a 1914 poem seemed fitting today:
"They shall not grow old
As we grow old
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn
At the setting of the sun
And in the morning
We shall remember them"

One year has passed and I know it has been a very long and rough road for your family and close friends. You are missed every day and in their thoughts every hour of every day. You will never be forgotten and are a true hero. Keep watch over your family and protect them. Wrap your wings around them and help ease their broken hearts.

Has it truly been a yr ? I woke up at 0622 hrs today-Sat ( the 29th )-looked out the window and noticed that the sky was overcast.the same as it was the last time we talked and nearly the same time in the mornining . I still regret that there wasn't something I could have said or did that could have kept you here .I told you to "stay safe" as you left the locker room , but its something we say to each other and every other copper we know- sometimes far too casually. It was your painful sacrifice that shut the mouths of the vindictive critics ,humbled the uncaring, and reminded all of us in uniform in L.A. ,In California, and even in the rest of the U.S. what the daily price is for wearing a badge .today a ceremony will honor you but what you were, and still mean , honors all police officers..

To Officer Tommy Scott and his loved ones:
On this the eleventh month after your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.
My heart is still with your family and I look forward to meeting them in Sacramento and/or D.C. You’re all in our thoughts and our prayers.
Tommy, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.
This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.
Rest in Peace, Officer Scott. I am so humbled by your valor and courage.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Tommy gave to his community and the citizens of Califonia, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 29, 2005.

It has taken me awhile to write this reflection. The pain, hurt and shock were still all too fresh. I have just recently stopped calling his cell phone as to hear his voice just one more time.
Officer Scott joined the Airport Police under my watch. He set in a chair and smiled brightly with such spirit as I told him and his fellow classmates how I felt about the agency he had joined. I explained to him how important his job was and how each and every one of us, our families, friends and co-workers depended on his diligence and hard work.
Tommy took everything that I told him and embraced it completely. He quickly became an officer that I personally depended on when critical assignments needed to be completed. As a field-training officer, you could not have asked for better.
The last two weeks of his life were spent taking care of one of those important tasks for me. He embraced that assignment and quickly became fast friends with those whom I assigned him to. He represented the Airport Police in a way that will not be duplicated. He put a face to an agency that had been virtually invisible for so long.
I miss Officer Scott tremendously. I look around for him sometimes when I need something done that is important to the future of the organization, temporarily forgetting that he is no longer physically with us. In my heart and mind, he will always be my first choice. However, his dedication and spirit have left me with a lot of great and dedicated second choices. He would be proud.
To his family, co-workers and friends that may read this reflection, I say to you, his smile is shining bright and watching over each of us. Please know that Tommy was not only admired as an excellent Airport Police Officer, he was truly loved.
As all of you know, you cannot help but love a Raider Fan.
God Bless us all.

T-Scott,
Man, I can't even begin to thank you for all the things you did for me while we worked together at Rancho Cienega Pool. You may have saved many lives as a police officer but you saved my when you were my pool manager. You were always a good friend and you never passed judgement on me when I wasn't exactly a "law abiding citizen". You stayed by my side and continued to show me that I could succeed in life without risking my life. I truly wish that we could have spent more time around each other in our adult years so that you could have seen what you helped me to become as a person. I owe you everything my friend and I stand with the fellow officers that worked along side of you; and I salute you. You were the most genuine person I have ever met and you will be greatly missed. I love ya Tommy and I look forward to seeing that smile, hearing that laugh, and joking around with you again in the next stage. Much love and respect soldier.

Tom,
I was devastated when I received the news. I still find it hard to believe that you’re gone. I remember that morning when we sat and had breakfast together like we had so many times in the past. I was about to take a bite while you were talking when an explosion shook the building. We looked at each other and with out saying a word we took action. I put out the call as we ran down the stairs from the mezzanine. When we reached the bottom of the stairs, you said “left” as I said right. I then cleared the right side of the building and started to approach the CTX in the front of the building just as you did. The air smelt burnt and was filled with smoke. Everyone in the area was standing around in a daze. Amazingly there were no major injuries.
During that incident I never once had any doubt in you. I knew you had my back as I did yours, like always. Instinctively you knew what had to be done and did it without question. That’s what kind partner and friend you were.
You will be forever missed. Until we see each other again, I wish you fair winds and following seas my friend.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Officer Scott.
While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect those whom you might not have even known despite the danger. While we did not have the privilege to have known him personally, we are certain that he has found a place in heaven.
Rest in peace our friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

To the family and friends of Officer Scott and the LAAP law enforcement family: I wanted to extend my deepest condolences for your tragic loss of Officer Scott. In reading the reflections posted by those who knew him, it is obvious that behind that bright smile was a person who loved life and lived his with a profound sense of duty and joy. What a blessing he was to his family and friends, to his department, and to the community. How awful that such a despicable act had to take the life of such a good man. Officer Scott, your bravery and valor and your dedication to your job will be forever remembered. My son lost his life the same week you lost your life when he was shot while on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. Our families began their painful journeys as police survivors at about the same time. The anquish of losing each of you will always be with us. All of our fallen officers will never be forgotten and will always be loved. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service you gave to man, community, and country and the supreme sacrifice that you and your family have made.
