Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Larry Elwood Lasater, Jr.

I just read your Mom's last reflection, and I could feel a tear coming down my cheek. It takes a lot for that to happen. May you be granted the eternal rest that you have truly earned and may your friends and family find the strength and courage to carry on until the grand reunion in the sky. Thanks for helping to make the World a better and safer place. R.I.P. Larry.

Hey Larry,

Just wanted to check in with you and say Hi. I just read about the verdict for the suspect in the death of Off. Niemi from San Leandro and it just really made me think of you. You and your family have been on my mind this past week and I hope that they are doing well....... Your Class 14 continues to prosper and one by one we keep hearing about another one being hired. Thank you for helping them out with that! ;)

Until next time........

Your mom is right. Nobody can minimize the impact you had on so many lives, no matter how hard they try.

Our son is getting so big and it's amazing to see the world through his eyes. He's is getting a bit of an attitude when he doesn't get his way. He gets over it pretty quick though. He did something that you would've loved yesterday. He was saying something I couldn't understand at first and walking funny. Finally I figured out he was saying "march" and was trying to march around. I have no idea where he got that. Of course I thought of the Marines. I'll take any sign I can get.

Love you

June 2, 2007

The voices of all those who loved you will not be silenced. The truth will prevail and your legacy of honor will continue to shine. Your family, friends, and law enforcement family will not surrender in our quest for justice for you and for us and for the greater community. It is pure evil that you were brutally murdered and the lives of everyone who loved you shattered forever only now to be confronted by those who try to diminish the impact of your loss by silencing our voices and presence. It will not happen. You are our beloved son, husband, FATHER, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, friend, co worker, Marine, and police officer eternally on watch. You are with us and we are with you.

I love you forever and ever, my beloved son.

You now have a park named after you. It's only about 10 minutes from home so I can take Cody all the time. "Cody's Corner" is a great little play area for kids. You'd be so honored by all the wonderful things people are doing.

Cody and I will bring you flowers tomorrow. He's starting to help me pick them out. Our little sad tradition.

Love you

May 16, 2007

It's so sad that you're gone. I still can't believe it. I'll love you forever.

HI Larry,

I have not been able to put into words what I want to say after the graduation for Class 14. I have been at the academy for the past two nights, and even though the cadets are FREE and away from the academy, they are still popping in and saying hi..... They're awesome.

Tonight is not the night that I will be able to close out the cadets files or be able to write what I want to. Just not ready for that yet......

I just wanted to tell you that I was thinking about you a lot especially on today, the day of the California Memorial in Sacramento. I thought about all of you today and I prayed for comfort for all of your families and friends....

Until next time my friend, Please continue to watch over us and guide us.......

Larry,

It was an honor to meet your family and have them be a part of the academy graduation last week. The cadet who received the Spirit Award in your name is well deserving and she will proudly represent the honor of your reputation and your memory. Even though I knew the history of the flag as it traveled around the world in your name all along the past year, to hear Damian tell the story to the graduation audience brought me to tears. The graduation ceremony last week and the Peace Officer Memorial ceremony tomorrow are tough reminders that some of the best are taken from us all too soon. Your family is especially in my prayers. Stand tall alongside Isaac, Tony and Dan as you watch over everyone in Sacramento and mourn the newest brothers to join you. You will never be forgotten.

Jo Ann, Cody and Phyllis,

Thank you for coming to Class 14's graduation. I can't begin to tell you how much it meant to each and everyone of us that you were there. I hope your accomodations were satisfactory and they met all of your needs while you were here. Please know that Larry will never be forgotten and that he lives on in the hearts of many, myself included. Keep us posted on Cody as he continues to grow. May God Bless and keep you always.

Larry,

It has been two years, and a day has not gone by that I think of you and what happend that day. I have only written here once since that day, but the last couple months have been pretty tough and I needed to write you.

Your memorial was very special, Phil shared some very special words with everyone. Dan put together the honor guard, including PPD and The Marines. I know you were their with us.

Jo Ann recognized the Fire Fighters who were with you two years ago and did an excellent job in honoring them for their bravery and efforts to save you that day. She is so strong Larry, and is a great mother with your little guy.

This week is the California Officer Memorial Ceremony in Sacramento. Marcy the kids and are are going up to honor you and all the fallen officers in the state of Califoria.

I plan to go in my Class A...I promise to have my boots shined, uniform pressed and my brass polished! We will never forget, you will always be in my families thougts and prayers. I miss you LL.

Officer Lasater,

Your memory is a true inspiration to more than those who knew you. I was not part of the class that honored you this evening however I felt genuinely moved by all those that remember you. When Officer Jackson walked the audience through history of the flag presented to your family it hit me somewhere deep, somewhere in my heart that I can't describe but made me realize how precious life is. Though it is a tragedy that your son barely knew you, he will grow up knowing that his father was nothing less than a hero. Cody will never wonder who his father was and what he did. He will know from a young age that you, his father, gave everything you had each and every day on the job and served as an inspiration to those on the same path who sometimes felt lost. While you are gone, you are immortalized in the memories of those around you and those whose lives you have touched. I still have a long road ahead of me, but everytime I feel like I'm at my limits, know that it is the memory of you and all of my fallen brothers that push me to never yield to pain or anguish. Pain is temporary, but pride is forever.

WE REMEMBER……………………………

AS WE BEGIN ANOTHER NIGHT
BOOTS SHINED AND CHECKING OUR LIGHT,
WE STAND PROUD IN FRONT OF OUR
NATIONS FLAG, HAND OVER OUR HEART
WE PLEDGE TO OUR LAND,
WE REMEMBER…………………………….

AS WE RUN DOWN THE DARK BLUE PAINTED
HALL, WE SILENTLY PASS OUR FALLEN HERO’S
WALL, WE STAND AT ATTENTION IN THE CLASS,
WAITING FOR THE CADET TO COME IN LAST,
WE REMEMBER………………………………

AS WE SIT IN OUR SEATS EXHAUSTED, AT
TIMES FEELING MENTALLY BEAT, WE LOOK
TOWARDS HIS PICTURE AND NEVER CLAIM
DEFEAT,
WE REMEMBER…………………………………

AS WE EACH SECRETLY STRUGGLE IN OUR
OWN PERSONAL LIVE’S WE LOOK TO 9Y6 IN
ORDER TO CLEAR OUR MINDS,
WE REMEMBER………………………………….

AS WE CONTINUED TO LEARN, AND AT TIMES
NOT SEE EYE TO EYE, WE REALIZED THAT AS
A TEAM WE COULD ALWAYS GET BY,
WE REMEMBER…………………………………..

WE REMEMBER AN EXCEPTIONAL OFFICER
WHOSE LIFE WE NEVER KNEW, BUT WHOSE
MOTTO “PRIDE IS FOREVER”, WILL ALWAYS
REMAIN TRUE,
WE REMEMBER…………………………………….

CLASS 14

Officer Lasater,

Last night we had the pleasure of meeting your family, and I was just as nervous about that as I will be at graduation tomorrow night. Today we had our last function as a class at the beach, and your family was with us. It is such an honor to have them here, they are all very special. We hope that you approve of all that we have been doing for them, we want them to be able to look back on these moments and smile. You have an amazing, strong, devoted family, and I hold deep in my heart the up most respect for each of them. Tomorrow is the "big day", so please be with us all. I know you will be right there with us as we stand proud of our accomplishment. It was a pleasure having you and your family apart of my life, and I hope that we will always have that connnection.
Thank you Larry for inspiring us to all become as great as person and officer as you were.

Larry,

Today our class had the pleasure of meeting your family. I cannot tell you what an honor it was having them in our classroom. We picked your mom up at the airport and she told sotries of you and what a remarkable person you were. We met with your wife and son and having them in our classroom was a feeling that can't be explained.
Our year is comming to an end on Thursday but honoring you and your family never stops. You have been an inpiration to all of us and have been the motivation that we needed to get us through. Watch over us as we graduate and for those who begin their careers give them the strength to do the best job they can.

God Bless you all,

Gone but never forgotten. You sir are a HERO. Please watch over us from up there as we carry on what you started. May we meet one day in the future. Until then, may you rest in peace knowing so many of your brothers in blue are always thinking and praying for your family and friends during what has to still be a difficult time.

Larry Elwood,

I needed to check in with you brother to let you know Laura and I remember you today! We remember our days at Ft. Knox with you as our neighbor and serving with you at 1st Tank BN. We remember meeting JoAnn and thinking how in the world did that happen (you won that deal man)! We miss you a ton, I have to admit I still speak of you in the present tense because I cannot think of you any other way. We think of your son, family and all that is good and honorable about you. I admire you as a Marine, son, brother, husband, father, UNC Fan and am comforted by your example and the way you are! I want you to know I appreciate your sacrifice and those of your brothers in blue we owe our freedom and quality of life to you heroes! I want to let you know your wingman Major Greg Poland is carrying on right now for us in Bagdad, is OK and thoughtful of you this day. You are the best!
