Reflections for Police Officer Larry Elwood Lasater, Jr.
Officer Lasater, I did not know you and had not heard of your passing. I came here because I have seen your wonderful, giving mother posting on just about every fallen officer's page I have visited that I have known. You should be proud of her as she obviously is so very proud of you. She is keeping your memory alive as well as keeping the memories of ALL fallen officer's alive.
Mrs. Lasater, I am the founder of Blue_Wives_Matter - a support group for fallen officer's spouses and their children, regardless of COD (so that means I do not turn away any family, whether it was LODD or not). I have a special program for the children of our fallen where I send the kids law enforcement patches every month for them to collect. It's a nice way for the kids to know that their dad's and they are NOT FORGOTTEN and that someone out there remember's them and the ultimate sacrifice their family has made. If your grandchild would like to be a part of this program please contact me at [email protected] or you can find me on Facebook under Kristen Sweaza or Blue_Wives_Matter (use the underscores). If any law enforcement officer is reading this and would like to donate patches to my program you can also email me. I depend on donations to keep the program running.
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved son. He is a true hero and I can see where he gets it from! My sympathies go out to his family.
All my best to the Lasater Family

I just met Larry’s mother Phyllis at my home in Washington State. She was next door visiting neighbors and found out that I had retired from 31 years LE service from LA and San Bernardino County a decade ago. She came by and we visited and spoke of her son Larry.
We live in a fallen world that will be made new once again according to the words of Christ. No words can adequately describe the honor and character of this Officer, cut short by a son of lawlessness.

I never knew you, but I was thinking of you, because your mom, and your wife left some very kind words on my dad's page.(Officer Arthur Williams EOW 3-1-78 Newark N.J.) May you R.I.P. , and I pray for your family many blessings.

On the anniversary of your death, may you always be remembered for your service and sacrifice for country, community, and family. Words can not convey what the heart feels. I never met my grandfather who also gave his life in service and had to leave behind his pregnant wife and a young daughter. You both will be remembered and honored by those who love and respect who and what you were. Rest in Peace and may God watch over you and your loved ones.

This is that day your loved ones remember with pain and tears no matter how many years have gone by. The love you left behind and the memories that bring smiles will forever cast a warm glow in the hearts of your family and friends. The son you never met is approaching young adulthood now and I feel sure you are watching over him; you are his hero and he is yours. Many people will be thinking of you today and praying for continued comfort for your family.
“...In this journey of life, even though we may begin at different times and places, our paths cross with others so that we may share our love, compassion, observations, and hope.....” Your mother Phyllis has my sincere admiration for her devotion to your memory and for her devotion to honoring the lives of so many fallen officers on ODMP. We must always be thankful for people who draw us together in a caring way for a common cause.

I was an alternate juror for this trial. Larry was a great man. The guys that killed him were children and made some really dumbass decisions. They got justice.
This case left an impact on my life. How great he was and how fantastically strong his wife and mother were.
I will remember you forever.

You are remembered Officer Lasater. I've read many of your mother's reflections on the pages of other LEOs on this site. Her words say so much about her character and yours. Your brother in blue.

As I return back from last week's Newman police officer's funeral, law enforcement again prepares for another funeral for a fallen police officer in Davis CA. I am reminded of all the funerals I have attended in my relatively short 16 years in law enforcement. The tragic loss of life for serving and protecting our communities is never one I take lightly and only strengthens my resolve in believing policing is one of the noblest professions in the world. The toll it takes on our families, friends, and departments, is sometimes too much to bear. And yet, if one asks any police officer about joining the police service, most of us wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again.
Mrs. Phyllis Lasater Loya, I had the pleasure of meeting you on a tour of the Arlington National Cemetery during Police Week in 2015. We rode the tour bus for a little while and I am so glad I got the opportunity to meet you and express my condolences on your son's passing as well as my gratitude for you support for all of us in law enforcement. I hope you are doing well.

I saw your mother’s reflection on one of our cities fallen, from 1927. We also recently lost another just last Nov. My sweet friends husband. It never stops. You are surely missed. Your sacrifice has not been forgotten. I pray your son always knows his father through stories and I pray for you Wife, I don’t know her... but I know her.

Thinking about Larry and his family today, 13 1/2 years later. One of the saddest days ever. Such a good man. Such a great cop. Missed. Loved. See you in the morning, hero. Rest well.

This morning is filled with thoughts of you as is every day. Never forgotten. Always honored. Forever missed. Forever loved.
A young 27-year-old deputy from Sacramento County was shot and killed this week. He was only married six months. It can seem so cruel when you think he hadn't even made it to his first anniversary and there was so much ahead of him...or cruel when I think you didn't even get to see your first child because Cody was born 2 1/2 months after you were killed. But now I remind myself of God's timing, not mine and it comforts me. I am trying to live purposefully and intentionally so I can see and live in our unbroken circle with you once again.
Loving you forever and a day.

I hope that everyone can find comfort in Revelation 21:4 where it says, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Until we see him again in Paradise, please accept my condolences.

I pray you Rest in Peace Officer Lasater. John 15:13 " Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends". I thank you my friend, that I never had the honor of meeting. By the kind words your mother, and wife, left on my dad's page Officer Arthur Williams EOW 3-1-78, I know you were a great man, because you were surrounded by a great family. I remember when I lost my dad, I was trying at the age of 19, to be strong for my mother, and my grandmother. Trying to hold that kind of pain in can be very harmful. That's why I still come to this site 40 years later. My mom, nor his mom are no longer with us. So the kind words from another officer's mom, and wife, meant so much to me. I don't just salute you Officer Lasater, I salute your family also. May God bless and keep you.

Rest in peace Officer Lasater. I see your mother writes many reflections as I do regarding brave and honest men and women who serve and place their lives in harm's way for our safety. You'll never be forgotten. My dad may he rest in peace served New York City for nearly forty years back in the late 1920's until August of 1966.

Thank you for your service, and for paying the ultimate price. May you rest in peace. I pray your family finds some peace. I know that's a hard thing for them to do, because my dad was also a police officer killed "Arthur Williams" Newark N.j. March 1, 1978. I was 19 when I got that phone call, as I was serving in the army. I'm 60 yrs. old now, and I still have my moments when it seems like it was just yesterday, and I have to cry. People who don't have love ones in law enforcement can't know this sorrow. I pray your family finds peace where ever they can, and that every officer returns home safely to their family tonight.

Ms Loya. I have read many reflections on here that you have left for countless officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice to their fellow citizens of this nation. You have not forgotten to provide some deep, heartfelt words of encouragement to the surviving members of their families. It led me to your son's page. Please find some comfort in knowing that Larry's sacrifice is always remembered and he always be a part of our family.

Thirteen years ago at this moment you were probably still sleeping because you worked graveyard the night before. In a few hours you went into work early so that another officer could be at the hospital while his wife was giving birth. You didn't hesitate to go in at all (not that you ever did} because you knew in a few months you may need a fellow officer to fill in for you for that same reason. To our great sorrow, you never came home again and that night ended with you at death's door at a hospital crowded with your family and brothers and sisters in blue. My cherished and beloved son, I have struggled so hard to understand why and realize that understanding will probably allude me until Judgment Day. Continue to watch over us. You know our hearts, all our hearts. You are never forgotten...not for a minute. You are always honored, not just for your hero's death but your hero's life. You are always loved...you are the best part of me. Mom
