Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Larry Elwood Lasater, Jr.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to serve others.
You were asked to see, what no man should ever have to see.
To go through, what no man should ever have to go through.
But you did so with pride, honor, and integrity.

My faithful servant.
You were called upon to defend those, who could not defend themselves.
To provide justice to those, who did not respect it.
To lay down your life, if the time called for it.
Again, you did not question what was asked of you.
You did it with love, compassion, and loyalty.

My faithful servant.
In times of adversity, you prayed for strength.
In times of triumph, you praised your Lord.
You served your Country, State, and city proud.
Your service will forever be remembered by the many lives you’ve touched.

My faithful servant.
When your service on this earth is finally complete.
I will welcome you home with open arms.
I will embrace you and proclaim,
“Well done thou good and faithful servant.”

The Lord has taken you home, but he will continue to watch over your family and bless them for your faithful service. Until we meet, rest in peace my brother

Husband, Father, Hero, Leader,
It's been eight years since graduating the academy and having the privilege of meeting your family. Eight years has gone by fast. I've been thinking of starting a family of my own soon and happen to come across a picture of you along with some old awards and my Marine discharge papers. It reminded me of you and your sacrifice and I began to wonder how your family has been. I started picturing your son and what he would look like today and how much I looked up to my father at such a young age. You see my father is a cop as well. I have always feared what may happen to him one day and yet here I am following in his foot steps. I look back on the things I have been through and experienced in this career and can't help but think of you and your family. I chased an armed robbery suspect not too long ago which ended in a fight. The bag he was reaching for and dropped while running had a gun. I immediately thought of you as the dust settled and I thanked you for looking out for my team that night.

I guess what I'm trying to say is without ever knowing you I have been influenced by your life. More importantly I have been impacted by the way you chose to live your life. I'm proud to have been such a small part of your life even after your death. I hope as I start a family of my own that I can live up to the standards you have set so high.

Your sacrifice was not in vein and I am always available for your family especially your son in whatever endeavor he chooses to follow. From one Marine to another, Semper FI. From one cop to another, code 4, 10-8, see you on the next one.

Respectfully,
Chris Hendrix

Brother, I want you and your family to know that your sacrifice is greatly appreciated. Your mother Phyllis carries your memory well and her many reflections on other sites brought me to your page. I am sure your son is very proud of the man you are. Rest in Peace

When is Someone called a Heroe ? Yes in the U.S. Armed Forces, who does something thats above the call of Duty. Yes for Civilian who comes across an incident and with out concern for their safety and without any training, saves someone, that's a Heroe. In Law Enforcement there
are no Heroes. As Police Officer They are Sworn and Trained
to Serve and Protect Live. Then when an incident occurs, his or her actions will rise to some Degree Valor and even
Honor. Officer Larry E. Laster. is a Candidate for,
The Medal of Honor, with a small v on the Metal for Valor
Officer Larry E. Lasater Jr. Should Always be Remembered.

Still does not seem real. 10 years later and it still simply doesn't seem real. Thank you for saving the life of a young gal who was scared and in danger and thank you for giving me the courage to face the past and move forward in life. You were every bit the hero that everyone says you are. I thank you for helping me so many years ago and mourn your loss. I know that if it weren't for your kindness I would not be here with my children today. God bless your wife, son, family and friends. Hold them and keep them.

I wanted to take a second to thank Officer Lasater for his service and selfless sacrifice to our country, and for ultimately giving his life trying to make this world a better place. We all do this job knowing the risk and following the passion, it's a draw unlike any other. Blessed are the peacemakers. Rest in a better place brother and thank you for all you did for this nation and the thin blue brotherhood of peacekeeping.
To his family, thank you for allowing him to serve and follow his obvious passion for selfless service for others. I am sorry you lost your Officer, your son, husband, father, and many hats her wore to others but how proud you all must be to have called him yours. I Wish I could have had the honor to know such a man.
God Bless you all and I pray you guys find peace and healing.

Phyllis,

I just read your kind reflection left on the anniversary of the line of duty death of my grandfather Thomas Gaffney, and wanted to thank you, and to let you how much we appreciate it.

My Uncle Tom was born shortly after his father's death, and he went on to become a U.S. Marine, where he served at Iwo Jima and other Pacific campaigns. I hope and pray that your grandson becomes as good a man as his father, and that he'll live with the knowledge that he's loved.

The Goddard Family salutes and honors Officer Lasater.
The greatest act of courage is raising your hand and swearing the oath. All that follows is duty. God has a special love for Police Officers and Soldiers. Those who precede us are already in Heaven.

In 2006 as I and 11 fellow officers prepared to ride across the country as part of the Police Unity Tour and to raise awareness of fallen officers throught the country and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. I was contacted by Larry's mother Phyllis who asked if I as a fellow Marine, would ride for Larry as we crossed the country.
I've been riding The Police Unity Tour for Larry ever since.
Even though I never had the pleasure of meeting Larry, after meeting Phyllis I feel I know him well. I thank the family for the privilege of being able to ride for him.

My heartfelt condolences to you friends and family. Here is a prayer for them. My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see... the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone......

Officer Lasater...Although we have never met, I would like to thank you for your service. This was such a horrible act that was committed by such cowards. Rest easy knowing that in this life or the next the persons responsible will pay the ultimate price. You are a true hero in every sense of the word and clearly a great man who was loved by many and is missed by all. I, like you, have a wife and son and put on this uniform every day not knowing if this will be the final inspection. Nothing will ever make the pain go away for your family but rest easy knowing that you are a warrior and your son will grow up to be a warrior, just like his father. This post is made with the utmost respect for you and your family. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Be easy brother...

Shared your sacrifice with the pd last week during patrol training. So many new cops that hadn't been properly introduced to you...it was great to see their admiration of you on their faces made me feel so good and so proud! I find you in my thoughts frequently as I raise Brock into a young man and prepare to send Payton out into the world. Your missed brother, more now than even before. Years on in this job will teach you about the precious things in life ....thanks for being such a important part of those lessons. Missing my friend ...

I was brought to this reflection page because your mother left a loving reflection for my granddad Burdine ( B.H.) Hatcher killed by gunshot on 5/17/1924. I will remember you. your wife and baby. My prayers go out to your mother. I know her pain because I lost my 16 year old daughter in a car accident. R.I.P. Officer Larry Lasater

Larry was a year older than I in high school. He came back to coach after he graduated for my senior year. Whilst he was far and away the best dressed coach I ever had, he was also an intense competitor and a good man. I may have outwieghed him by 100 pounds, my life and good acts are far outwieghed by his.
