Mark,
I never told you this, but because of your quiet guidance I was able to develop into an adult who graduated from college, is a father, coach and has a career. When I met you (and was your back up at College of Dupage) I was at a point where I didn't know how to be an adult, college student/athlete etc. With your quiet guidance I learned all of this. I never told you while we were there, but I always looked up to you. I feel blessed to have played with you and Eric. May you rest in peace my friend!

Thinking of you and your family today on this seventh anniversary. You and my son were shot at almost the same time, but you were on different coasts with you in Georgia and Larry in California. Our families began this difficult journey together. I pray for their solace as I know both the pain and pride are forever.
Rest In Peace, Mark.

Mark, I finally got the Grand Rapids Police to add your name to the police Memorial Roll Call they hold here. We have gone to it every year since 2005. I will NEVER forget you Mark. I love you and I miss your laugh. I can still hear you laughing down stairs at your mom and dad's house the last time we were there with you. The 23rd is comming fast and I an not looking forward to it. I miss you so much.

Mark,
We lost another fine officer last evening when APD Officer Gail Thomas was killed when she was struck by a vehicle. Your mom and I knew Gail because she was a member of the APD Honor Guard. Another fine officer and a great human being gone too soon. We love and miss you and not a day goes by that we don't think of you.
I was good to see that one of your COD teammates Abie Camacho wrote a reflection recently, I remember him well and it is good to see that he also went into law enforcement.
Love and miss you,
Dad

I reflect back to the day I first met you my brother. You were a proud individual, a man of respect and I admired that about you. I continue to keep you and your family uplifted in prayer. We no longer have the REDDOG UNIT within APD, but it's my promise that I will not let your service or your name fade from the ranks of this elite unit. Gone but never forgotten, "Lest We Forget" Officer Mark Cross, APD REDDOG TASK FORCE! God bless you!

Cross was our recruit for the Personnel Services Unit when he was hired. We grew to love Cross, his smile and his personality. I think of Cross often due to the pictures of him posted up around the department. I would like for his parents, wife and kids to know that I have not forgotten him and my prayers will continue to go up for his family.

Officer Cross's son stood by his fathers casket and picture of him giving a hand salute to his father and the American flag. After seeing this my heart felt the loss knowing that we not only just lost one of our own but another child has lost his father. Our fight for justice is not over so we must continue to defend those who can't defend themselves. Officer Cross will always be remembered in our hearts and his family will always be apart of ours. REST IN PEACE MARK YOU MAYBE CODE 8 FOR THE REMAINDER BUT IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS YOU WILL BE CODE 7 WITH US AS WE CONTINUE THE FIGHT.
