Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Larry Randolph Cox

Larry we had a memorial for you tonight. You would be so proud of all the kids that got up to say something. Almost all of them called you a hero and a friend. Everybody was there that you can imagine. A lot of people left flowers and cards. Some left pictures but everyone left tears. Your mom and dad are rocks. They seem to be doing the best you could imagine but if you get a chance, you might help them out a little. Im sure you already know but there were a lot of pictures of your "afro" floating around, I told them you would get them back for that. But I have to say, it made me smile just thinkin about how it would have bugged you.

C ya.

May God's peace be upon the family, friends and co-workers of Patrolman Cox. Just know that there are lots of folks across this country that care very deeply. His sacrifice will not be forgotten. Patrolman Cox will always be remembered as a true hero.

You were one of the great ones. I cannot remember a time I ever saw you without a smile on your face. Your dedication to the kids was paramount. St. Michael's mission for you as a warrior of peace may be over for now, but we will meet again. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."

There are those who pay the ultimate price to ensure the sanctity of our way of life. Freedom is often taken for granted by those not battling fot its viability, but for those who are and who have, America owes a debt of gratitude. America owes you, Larry, a debt of gratitude which can never be repaid. The best we can do is to honor you as the warrior of freedom that you are. God has a special place in heaven for his warriors, and you are an honorable one. Your shift is over now... we'll try to measure up. I salute you with sadness in my heart and pride in my soul. You were one of the best.
You can rest now... we have your back.

I pray for your family left behind. May they find peace in their hearts. You may not be here to comfort them, but you are a police officer and they will always be part of our family. You were one of a kind. You are our brother. You will be missed. God Bless.

Lord,

He asked for courage;
Courage to face and conquer his own fears, to take him where others would not go.

He asked for strength;
Strength of body to protect others, and strength of spirit to lead others.

He asked for dedication;
Dedication to do his job and to do it well,dedication to his community to keep it safe.

He asked for concern for those who trusted him, and compassion for those who needed him...

And Lord, through it all you were by his side.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Somebody killed a Policeman today,
and part of America died.
A piece of the country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side.

The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights;
While a young widowed mother, must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

Yes, someone killed a Policeman today,
maybe in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort, behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks the beat, on a dark city street,
and he stands by each rookie's side.
He answered the call.....of himself he gave all,
and part of America died.

I just want you to know that Larry was a wonderful person. I got to know him from working out at the YMCA. He would talk to me about my son that was a co-worker. He had a great laugh. I didnt know him as well as my son,daughter and others did. But it just took one time of talking to him and you knew that you had a friend that really cared. This town will never forget Larry Cox. My prayers and condolences go out to your family,friends and all the police officers that work so hard and put there life on the line for us daily. God bless you Larry and I miss that smile and the talks we had about my kids.

I spent many hours running on a tredmill next to Larry at the YMCA and it didn't take me long to realize that he was one of a kind....an all around great guy. Larry....don't worry....I'll be sure to harass "Hollywood" for you on a regular basis. May you rest in peace friend.

As a widow of a fallen officer,please accept my condolences...This is the one club I never wanted to be a part of. There is never any 'closure', but some days are better than others.. I hope you find something or someone to lean on for strength to get through this horrendous time...Try to remember what Larry would have wanted for you and your family, and choose accordingly.
